FTP for Saturday the 5th. Timing the Brule River View Loppet XC Ski race today. Should be a great day for skiing. Sunny and enough snow to cover the trail. FAST snow conditions for sure.

Volunteering tomorrow for the River View Loppet XC ski race at Brule Wisconsin. I’m doing the timing function for the race. A bit stressful when trying to tabulate all the age division winners! But this type of mild weather for the skiers, especially for waxing the classical skis can be challenge. But with the newer “racing no wax” skis they will have an easier choice, but they have to have bought that choice to make!

Unfortunately my event at the Brule Ski Trail has been cancelled/archived due to the continuing winter storm. Duluth was at 5 inches and their winter advisory has been cancelled, but the South Shore of Lake Superior continues to be hammered with wind driven lake affect snow. Plus the WDNR is not at work today so their parking lot won’t be plowed out until tomorrow.
Happy New Year and be safe for those traveling to other events today.

I heard from my bro in Fond du Lac, that 5 ice shanties were destroyed Lake Winnebago opened up with the recent winds. They were stationed out about 2 miles on the Third Reef. He watched them head North on the ice floes and then they were GONE! Thank goodness no one was there fishing!! LOL

Every night for a week, I’ve been solving Texas Geoart Puzzles in anticipation for going to Geowoodstock. Working on the Texas Lone Star of 254 county puzzles.

Snowing lightly now. Garbage and recycling bins are tucked away out of the wind, as they like to “blow their lids off!” with the gales of December.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Gale Warning,<br style=”font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; margin: 0px;” /> which is in effect from 6 AM to 10 PM CST Monday.

I scrubbed up some 5 gallon pails, filled with water, and they are outside overnight for making ice candles. They have a bit more freezing needed to thicken up the walls so they don’t break when inverted to empty the water out of their middle. Plus in case of a meltdown, the thicker walls last a bit longer. But NO meltdown in sight. Only below zero weather coming up.

Well, now let’s set the bar higher to say that during ALL the football game time-outs today we log on the pages to get to 1000.

7 pages to 1000 — yikes that’s a long way to go at the rate we are logging. Now if everyone logged at every time out in the Packer game today we would make progress!!

I’m not a U of Michigan fan, but I’m a bit partial to them at the football game today against Florida.

Just got back from Ashland to exchange ice creepers for a larger pair for boots. LOTS of ICE all over up here from the rain and snow. Still some open water on Chequamegon Bay too.

Christmas Bird Count Up North at Washburn yesterday – 9 robins and 2 Cedar Wax Wings festing on the flowering crab tree berries. Unfortunately a flock of starlings is competing for the same food source. That’s what the birds have right now – fruit – with the frozen ice and snow on the ground.
