Thanks to all who ran for the WGA BOD. Thank you to Chris, Becca and Michael for their many years of service.

    Now the transition begins!

Br-r-r-r-r-r-r Baby It’s Cold Outside! It’s 15 degrees, but feels like -15 degrees out there. Spoiled from the warmer weather, but look out for the 40’s and 50’s coming soon.

Road Trips! I’ve been on the road to Florida and Arizona for “winter caching!” Escaping the snow.

Working on many challenge caches and the “challenge of being a WGA BOD member!” Planning ahead and balancing these challenges along the way. It’s been a great trip so far. 2017 has a lot to offer.

One thing “Up North” in finding those lonely caches, is Winter weather when many of the Chequamegon-Nicolet forest roads are not plowed. Then we have spring “break-up” when the roadways turn to mush when the frost comes out of the ground. Then of course we have a lot of spring wood ticks and deer ticks, not to mention the mosquitoes and black flies. So many times this prevents year-round Lonely Cache Hunting.

I have my eye on a few Up North Lonelies and have found 2 in January, but then I’m not so sure about the roadways for the others in my areas. So I’ll have to strap on my snowshoes or skis?

Another thought I have to increase participation is to dangle a carrot! In thinking over the awards, the 2017 BOD could develop the Awards NOW and post them as incentives to encourage LCGamers. We could try this or other award incentives to encourage more participation. It may help to clean-up those lonelies and have greater turn over.

For Example: 1st Place $30 Premium Membership Gift Card, $20 Gas card, WGA Geocoin 2nd Place $30 Premium Membership Gift Card, WGA Geocoin, 3rd Place $30 Premium Membership Gift Card, WGA T-Shirt, 4th-10th WGA Swag

OR we could have uniquely made gifts which would feature Lonely Cache Game Awards – such as Specially designed Laser Cut Plaques for 1st-3rd. I also have a contact for ceramic plates. Unique Coffee mugs in ceramic could also be made. I have sources for this too.

    Just potential ideas.

A balmy 12 degrees Up North. Going to the Seeley Hills Classic XC Ski race to staff the main food station at County 00 along the Birkie Trail. Should be fun. Then I may just try for the Hayward Cheesehead LOOKOUT LOOKOUT cache by skiing north on the Birkie Trail to the highpoint and then to the site of the old Seeley Hills Firetower to dig for this one. Will see how the morning goes.

I do know this will be a trek on my xc skis in those big Birkie hills We skiers “lovingly” named them Bitch 1, Bitch2, Bitch 3, Bitch4, as the big hills when skiing from Telemark in Cable to Double 00. The ones I will tackle are #3 and #4 both ways. It may be interesting to relive the thrill of my 21 Birkies on this section!

I sent the edit to Dawn to look at. However, if you click on the link to Marathon County Parks, you will be ok. Thanks for the feedback.

The goal was to get the word out early to our members. Edits and corrections can always be made and we have plenty of time to do it!!!

Perhaps it appears as a cost for very few who use it. However, there are many WGA Activities run through this, including membership. And there and many Board of Director’s functions which occur “behind-the-scenes” that make this a very valuable tool. Being a new BOD member with less than one year experience, I really don’t know any other media that would be able to take it’s place without technical research by those with higher tech skills than myself.
