Keep in mind that not all public land is DNR managed land.
Also, as per the DNR website:
Before placing a cache
Ask permission of the landowner. If the land is managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, do this by filling out a notification form with all proper information and submitting it to the appropriate DNR land manager. Do not place your cache until this step is completed.http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/OutdoorRecreation/activities/geocache.html
I know I have to submit before placing. Do I wait for approval?
The cow in Thorp is next to a motel I believe.
I for one would like to attend an event which is local for me. Merrill is only like 30 miles away. For me the time and day will determine if I’ll be able to attend. A big or small event each has there pros and cons.
Now you got my attention!
I’ve been reading this tread and it turned from what caches do you seek to P&G bashing. I know I’m a newbie but I’ve going to defend them.
I’ve been doing this about 2 weeks. I choice these to start with. Like most people I’ve never had a GPS before starting this hobby and don’t know anyone who does this hobby. I’m still learn what it can and can’t do. I’m no way ready to wander off in the woods when I don’t even know what I’m reading of even looking for.
Many factors does into going after P&G’s. I only get like an hour after work to Geocache. Limited time means quick finds. Also it fricking cold out there. I think today was the highest temp in 2 weeks. Made it up to 9. Many people have physical limitations. To walk trails this time of year is not smart. Many trails around here are snowmobile in winter. You won’t find me on them.
Now this last one is the most important I think. I do them for a confidence builder. I think if I would have quit fairly soon if I didn’t make some finds right away. A few DNF would discourage a lot of people. I’m sure many seasoned vets go for P&G’s to wart off dry spells or a quick “fix”. Its a confidence boost for vets also.
I know if I gave it some more thought I would come up with other reasons to like P&G’s.
