I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’d have to fight about having cheese and/or cows on a coin representing WI Geocachers!!! While we do reside in this state, and on most occasions are very proud of where we live, Geocaching is not about our state heritage…it’s about the trees, the paths, the brooks, streams and lakes. It’s about the walk and those we walk with. It’s about finding a prize in the last place we look. It’s not about cows or cheese! If someone is caching in a field of cows, chances are they’ve crossed into private property and that’s not good. If there is cheese in an ammo box…well…we all know how gross that would be! So I vote we stick to the trees, rivers, lakes, etc!
(I mean, if we’re going for the whole “What our state is known for” thing, where’s the badger or the packer backer?…BLAH!)

PC: any chance you can work some kind of hidden item in a tree? So it can be seen, but not at first glance…

With my Magellan Sportrack Map I’ve found well over 1400 caches.

I hate to say it, but I have actually borrowed Commander Bob’s Garmin (for a trip to CA…it had turn by turn directions…very important when travelling…am I making excuses? ). I only found a few caches, but did enjoy the driving directions in a somewhat unfamiliar area.

Isn’t that cute, if not sad? A poor little Garmin user can’t adapt to a Magellan. I never seem to have a problem w/ Commander Bob’s Garmin. I guess they just teach us Magellan users to be ready for anything…even a Garmin! …Oops…did I start that war that Chad was trying to avoid?

Try emailing Joe via the GC site and perhaps he can send you the entire file…he’s a good guy and loves to help people w/ this craziness!

Oh…that’s so sad! You should have just reached them from your car!

For the record, we took someone who uses a wheelchair for daily living…she has been caching for quite some time. She did the navigating and signed many of the logs for the others in the car. This was just our way of doing it, but it proved to be quite a nice way for her to get to do a lot of caches all at one time! In fact, after a few, she had reached 100 caches! It was quite the celebration!

Do the series how you see fit, but know that there is a way for EVERYONE to do it!

As for boredom…just go into it w/ an open mind and a bit of silliness in the car and you’ll be fine! I was lucky enough to be travelling w/ a bunch of crazies each time (sadly…all 4 times…that’s a 396 BoB’s and only 99 log each!).

Yeah…no one will notice the big antenna sticking out of hte top of it!

in reply to: Bob Help #1740669

The BoB’s are a great way to spend some quality time in your vehicle! The series was placed last year by Idiot Savant (aka/ Genius Loci and Hutt). You get to talk, and laugh, and play and listen to the radio…all while logging caches! Not a bad way to spend the day. (Me, I wish we’d have done them on a bike!
***IMPORTANT NOTE: This series is also fully accessible to those w/ physical challenges!***

You can access the entire series by using looking up the profile for Idiot Savant

What about the second one you got that day? How far was it to that cache?

    A couple of points:
The coins will not be purchased by WGA or even WI residents only! There are people all over the country who buy these coins. I’ve had many emails from cachers looking for information about coins in the area. There is a lady in CA watching this thread right now and waiting to see what happens so she can email me to place an order. So when deciding about pricing, company to purchase from, GC.com info, etc. we need to keep these people in mind as well. Collectors are collectors! They could be the ones who make the difference in our ability to move the coins!

As for design, there is such a variety of abilities within our community. I’m sure that there is someone out there who can design the coin (as in the WGA t-shirt contests) and save us the cost of artwork. I do hope though, that IF the WGA is going to sponsor this attempt, they allow the WGA voting members the chance to voice opinion about what design to choose! I hope it’s not something that is voted on by ONLY the WGA Board…not that I don’t value the opinions there, I just think that since these coins will be representing all of us in the state…well…you get the picture. My vote, WE ALL VOTE!!!
