I’ve enjoyed reading your logs for this series! (Actually, I enjoy reading most of your logs when I stumble across them!)

Fishcachers just returned from Disney World, and can now add Florida to their list of states!

    Our numbers should now read:

    09-04-00 Fishcachers

I like it! I’d LOVE to come across one in a cache!

The badger is still my favorite though.

Along the brainstorming route – we could have an auction to *buy* the best parking spot at the picnic each year!

    This is a great thread.

I suppose it depends on if that GPSr is waterproof or not.

    Congrats to the new parents!!!

That makes me sad. I liked Buxley’s maps. I don’t like the GC.com maps much.

I really liked going to the world view of the Buxley’s maps then checking out what was in different countries! So neat!

That’s exactly where I thought this was going as well until I decoded the clue….

Not *quite* as fun as Beast’s predictions, but a “necessary” thing to do, I suppose!

in reply to: How’d you get your handle? #1760222

Two years ago, we had just returned home from our annual trip to northern Minnesota, aka, heaven. After unpacking and sorting thru the mail, I sat down with the August 2003 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I read an article about ways to stay active as a family, and in that article they described geocaching. I thought it sounded like tons of fun, and a perfect way to get the whole family up and about. I went out the next day and bought a GPSr.

When we went to register on geocaching.com, we thought for awhile…. But since we’d just returned from our vacation where we spent the week fishing, well…. fishing was on our mind. And to make a play on words, we became *fishcachers* (fish catchers).

And since we don’t cache as a family all the time, I’ve become Mama Fishcacher, and we have Papa Fishcacher, and Little Fishcacher. Mostly, it’s just me geocaching anymore and the others only come along when I beg them. I’ve considered changing my handle at gc.com to reflect this, but have decided it’s more trouble than it’s worth, lol.

Holy moly! Look at all the micro cachers on the horizon!!! (I hope it’s not contagious!!! LOL!!)

Congrats to WISearchers, What’s Next, and Green Bay Paddlers! I’m very happy for all of you!

I pretty much cache alone. My routine lately is: I drop Little Fishcacher off at school, Papa Fishcacher is still sleeping at home from his late work shift (7pm-3am), and off I go! Every cache under our team’s name I have been there. Someday I’ll go back and count exactly how many LF and PF have actually attended. If it wasn’t such a PITA, I’d change the team name on GC.com.

LF has been hesitant to cache since he got into some stinging nettle at one this summer. (I don’t blame him! That stuff is awful!) But also, it’s not always his cup of tea. PF just works that weird shift, so getting him to come along is next to impossible anymore. Every now and then the three of us will go together and find one on a weekend afternoon.

But I find I like caching alone more and more. I love being out in nature, going my own pace, stopping to ponder whatever I want to ponder, and moving along when I want to move along. I trust my gut instincts as to whether I should stop for a cache or not in regards to personal safety. Just today I did a loop of caches in an area and one cache I pulled off the road to park for, I just had an icky feeling about, so I passed it by instead. I’ve only had that happen just a few times, so I trust the feeling when it surfaces. But just in case, I also carry a cell phone, a knife, and pepper spray. (So don’t jump out and surprise me on the trail or you might be sorry! LOL!)

Ok. You busted me. I’ve been enjoying reading this post, but haven’t posted yet.

    I like to cache because:

-I love being in the woods.
-I love the accomplishment of finding the cache (I’ve always been a very goal oriented person.)
-I love seeing where people take me right here in my neighborhood and even to other towns I would never have visited otherwise
-I love driving past an area I’ve already found a cache and pointing out, “there’s a cache over there” to my hubby who rarely caches with me.
-I love finding beautiful places. Being in the outdoors is my *church*. And when I don’t get outdoors for awhile, my spirit gets malnourished. Geocaching gets me outdoors more often.
