It’s over – whole story, see http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=ae3c8b22-e805-43b5-8c59-46d5d7a29699

Are you being a curmudgeon again? Care to meet for lunch today?
To whom are you addressing these snide remarks?
We had lunch at the Machine Shed.
Ah, Alex, dont be so paranoid! My Puzzle tours are not to talk about your puzzles, but everyones!
My Tours are equal opportunity Tours. Whichever puzzle or cache we are searching for gets all the attention and talk. The fact that you have more puzzles out there than most other cachers combined, means you get talked about more often. More puzzles, more attention, more comparisons, more comments (both good or bad!).
Nothing I can do about others remembering the problems they have with your puzzles. That’s human nature, to remember bad over good. I do not actively encourage that!
What does a Tour do?
1. Group pooling of solving and hunting. More eyes certainly helps alot!
2. Geocachers getting a change to gab, socialize, etc.
3. Going to lunch!
4. Generally having a good time. What does a Tour not do?
1. Point out where the cache is.
2. Point out where the cache is.
3. Point out where the cache is.
4. Point out where the cache is.What purpose does a puzzle event serve? To encourage cachers to do puzzles! To show them how easy some are, and how hard others are.
You do get more than average attention here, because you have alot of unusual habits when constructing puzzles. Only fair to share knowledge of these, point out pitfalls and detours, to make it easier for others.Enough the numbers go high enough, someone will eventually go look!
WWDD?
Now that I slept on it awhile, I came back to this idea ….. with no choices.
I can not think of an actual cache style or type that I hate enough to want to see it banned. Some suck, but not that bad …….
I notice there are still a number of rather old Rescues out there.
So, what about a modification to the points they earn?
10 points (current value) plus 1 point for each month it’s been on the list (change)?
I tried logging in around 1 PM yesterday. Got a screen message stating the site was down for maintenance. First time I have seen that. Usually, it just does not load, or an error message.
I do not believe a puzzle rating system would work, unless you have large numbers of cachers make input to it/them.
For example, rating them 1 to 5, with 5 being the hardest.
If the owners rate them: Owner rates it 2, I look at it and can not figure out what the subject is! I see it as a 5. Who’s answer is correct? This system will require other cachers to ‘know’ the owner in order to judge for themselves what the difficulty of any particular puzzle might be.
When I hiked in Arizona, there was one hiker who rated the hike to the top of the highest mountain as moderate. It started at 10,000 feet, and went to 13,600 feet, over a 2.5 mile trail. Almost everyone else rated it extreme. Depends …………
If cachers rate them: A new puzzle comes out, and the ftf to rates it a 1. Quick and easy. Well, I come plodding along, and again, can not figure it out. Is it a 5 for me? Ok, the average is now 3, based on two inputs.
If you had, say 25 to 50 cachers, making an input to a particular puzzle, a better average would result. But how would you begin to get others to make an entry, when many puzzles might not have that many solvers/finders?
As PCFrog alludes to, there is a problem on how to list some caches – puzzle or multi?
Before initiating a puzzle rating, I think that issue should be resolved first.
1. Well, my main intent here was to get some discussion, see what different viewpoints come up. That’s working ……
2. Was not picking on anyone. No matter how you phrase something, it will point to one or more persons. Did anyone read gotta run’s (11/2 3:55) posting?
