How about “This is an optional request, and to help you comply with this request, I will be so kind as to delete your log if it does not comply, generously providing you the opportunity to relog.”

    Sieg Heil Groundspeak!

On my ALRs, I always did consider it optional. preferred but optional. Most people did the ALRs, but I didnt make a big deal of contacting folks who did not. I certainly would not make a big deal about deleting someone’s log if they did not include the photo or story I requested, and in general think some of the folks that do make a big deal about there ALRs take themselves a bit too seriously. I also wonder if people being dinks about deleting logs for miniscule reasons is one of the major reasons that Groundspeak had to get rid of ALRs.

    zuma

You know, I just realized that I forgot the ALR part of one of zuma’s caches last weekend. It’s such and easy one to do, too… I’ll have to go back and re-log it.

LOL….You dont “have” to. But if ya want, that is fine. Like I said, I have always considered it optional and even preferable, but not a big deal if someone forgot, or didnt understand the request. This is after all a game that is intended to be done for fun.

And here I thought this was Zuma’s job!

thinking about a cache that the finders are to post only

    TFTC

on their log and deleting anything else by saying I don’t care how much fun you had, how long you searched, that you didn’t like the cache, if you left anything, took anything, whatever. (and no punctuation, emoticons, etc)

How can I word this so it doesn’t appear as an ALR? 😀

King Boreas has several ALRs where a specific log is required, including one for just TFTC. there are others such as “E.C. was here” and other arbitrary wordings of loggings.

I enjoy the additional logging req. as long as they are reasonable. However, with a cache like KB’s logging just a “TFTC,” I wouldn’t like. Most people know that unless it is a guardrail cache, I like to write about my adventures during the cache. To me that is just as much fun as finding the cache. Take GMO’s cache where a finder is “asked” to write a Haiku. I did one similar to that in Arizona or S/S “Consult the Oracle.” It makes the cache more fun and memorable. Just logging TFTC… why????

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments.

We certainly had a lot of fun in NC and the Smoky Mountains. I would have to say that the virtuals by Kitty Hawk were equally satisfying.

There is one cache, Dawn of Aviation

where you needed to take your picture with a plaque by the spot where the Wright Brothers started their first flight. A cacher, “Brodster,” who visited on March 29 had a very funny log. Check it out for a laugh.

    Again, thanks everbody.

Not too painfull. Just 15 caches with ALR’s out of 191. Another week or two and there will be 5 more and I have NO intention of quiting the practice of including them in my caches either. Bring on the flamage…

I too can understand both points of view. However, as an example, a S/S cache, “Consult The Oracle” would not mean anything to me without the “optional” task. I remember being there that day with the Bandits and we had a blast with the cache. Did it take extra time? Yes, but it was well worth the laughs we shared that day. Great cache and one I’d highly recommend to others.

I saw one walleye and 1 sucker in the first 3 miutes but then nothing for the next 15 minutes. Time to do something more constructive.

This will answer my question and ad to the reason “why” this is being done.

Code word verifications are included in this: they too are an ALR which should not prevent someone who signed the log from claiming that cache as Found.

EarthCaches are not affected by this guideline change. They do not have a physical container. They will continue to require some form of verification.

We have made this change because, over time, the ALRs attached to a rapidly-growing number of caches have devolved to have little or nothing to do with geocaching: the act of finding a unique container/location using latitude and longitude. Many ALRs now only distort the spirit of the game. We regret that a few really cool ideas may be lost as a result, and we apologize to the cache owners concerned. Groundspeak has decided that the number of ALRs which approached and even reached the absurd had grown large enough.

Oh Boy! Now I get to take on VG in this!
