I’m planning a trip to Shawano in the next couple months. Can anyone recommend some really great caches within say 20 miles of Shawano (or up to 30 miles to the South)? I like rock and water features quite a bit and anything with a view is a good thing…
If you like rocks and Water, maybe you should alter your route to take you through the Wausau/ Rib Mountain area. 😀
I’ll get there…..eventually. The Tennessee mountains are also in my not too distant future…but that is another thread..and possibly on a different forum (does Tenn have a geocaching org?).
They actually have 3 separate Geo. Associations. The Middle West, and SE
Link to middle Middle TENN
Link to WEST West TENN
Link to SE South East TENN07/08/2008 at 1:34 pm in reply to: Looking for outstanding can’t miss caches near Shawano, WI #1891872@Lostby7 wrote:

Congratulations ZB!
Keep on caching instead of planning those FTP on the crazy page. [:)]
My compliments on a nicely done job of the new WGA newsletter.

The only thing you can do is wash it off right away…first hour at least (there is still much debate to time…I would say 10 minutes to be “safe”). I was out for about a month…with the swelling and “boils”…not fun…but i managed to live through it…
I know when I had encountered it, my leg started turning red and was burning. I was able to get to some water (we were at a rest area..”Marion The Librarian”) about 5 minutes or so later and within a few a few minutes of washing it off it felt better. Nettles sting but this Parsnip burns!

2nd round of league invites just went out. So we now have 12 teams, or I should say we might have 12. The auto draft wont be until late August.
If it’s going to be an auto draft… I’ll take the Toyota!
SEE! And that’s why VG is LAST YEARS Champ. Math maybe…..FFB…not so much! 😉
HUH? 😯
Your the Teach. Figure it out! 😉
Oh I figured it out. I just can’t believe you would say that about your FF Buddy! 😉

There’s a great new puzzle cache out in Wausau – Templar Treasure that you have to try. It does involvepaddling so if you have to travel, bring your boat. But there’s so many great paddleable caches in wausau now that travelling with your boat is definately worth it. And if you live in / around Wausau, what are you waiting for? This one could easily be the next cache of the month! Awesome job to TBC for putting it together… Zuma… 3 people have already found it… better hurry! (I’m in the middle of this one right now)
Man, I looked at the cache page, and didnt know where to even start to solve the puzzle…..I just aint that smart….
I did like the great graphics on the page though, and even used one of them as my wallpaper in hopes of getting inspiration, but so far, no luck.

It won’t last. 🙂
The rest of the family has reached that point a while ago, but I still look for every opportunity to turn any family event or function into a chaching trip. I know that the day is coming that it won’t seem quite so important to me, but right now, it’s all about caching.
Enjoy your recovery, and start picking some “nice” caches instead of all of them. You mean the Birthday Party you had for “The Clowder Event” was really all about Geocaching and NOT your wife’s Birthday??? 😯
😉
CONGRATULATIONS!
It’s nice to set a goal and then reach it. Way to go.

Holy crud! It works! I honestly have NO IDEA what I did, I just reloaded my Palm software like 6 times and then one last time decided to update it with a PDA414 patch from Palm and now it works with Cachemate! I feel like I won the lottery! 😀 Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help! ❗ ❗ ❗
Sweet! I hope it keeps working for you (don’t touch ANYTHING :)).
What was this patch you applied? Maybe if it is something you got off the Internet you can post a link to it? I did not see a patch for Palm Desktop 4.14 on the page Da Fu posted. Fu, are you using Palm Desktop 4.14 or the newer 6.2?

Frustrated… I would try the memory card thing, but I can’t even get the hotsync to work.
If you use a memory card to transfer the CacheMate .pdb file to the Palm, you don’t need to have syncing working or even have the Palm Desktop software installed. You simply copy the file created by GSAK to the memory card. (Of course you need a memory card reader to be able to do this…)
I will have to try this too. With the research I did, I found out, via Palm, that Vista does NOT support pdb files so it can’t be loaded onto the Palm. I have a Tungsten E2

Is anyone else having problems doing a pocket query for caches along a route or is it just me? For the last two days I keep getting a screen that comes up saying “Sorry! We encountered an error when requesting that page!”
I had that problem a few weeks ago and just gave up.

Assuming the difficulty level is accurate 🙄 I like RPaske’s rule of thumb which is 5 minutes for ever star.
Thus one star difficulty=5 minute search, 3 star difficulty = 15 minute search etc. TamiHow much would that be for a 2 STAR???
All of the previous posters had valid points in how long a search is made. One other factor that Iuse is whether it was previously DNF’ed a few times and there wasn’t owner validation that the cache is still there. I will then spend less time especially if it was almost always found but now it is being DFNF’ed. The rating of difficulty is also important. The time put into the hunt is also a big factor.
Recently Rick Blick and I spent a while getting to a “Northwoods” cache (Pleasant Pines) and we were both there for 45 minutes but it hadn’t been found since last September. We went over the area for a small/large cache for a long enough time to finally call it quits.
