I’m sure this was in jest. The Appleton area is starting to get a better cache base if you will.

Could someone plant a couple of hundred caches near me, so I will not have to drive so far?!

My guess would be Tenners 2N1 cache. I was half done once but gave up. Never got back and lost any notes I may have had. Now Tenner said he made it harder!

Marc_54140 hit the 1000 mark today at 11:30 while visiting the Battle with Fallen Timbers cache! Glad that I could be there for this milestone!

I have 4 within 30 miles that don’t have serious issues and I haven’t found. That bites .

How does one recalibrate the compass? I have never found the option on any of my Garmin units (GPS II, GPS III, and GPS V)

The chances of getting them in our part of the country are slim. so, I turned off WAAS.

I reduced the speed at which the electronic compass kicks in to below 1 mph and also discovered, after reading the manual, that the compass needs to be recalibrated after every battery change. I disabled Battery Saver mode, too, so the unit updates once per second instead of once every 5 seconds.

It seems that, since doing this, the receiver fluctuates less. I guess we’ll just have to go caching more to test the theory.

I met my 1st non event cacher on the trail today after 360 caches without! It was a 1st day cache and it happened to be the day after talking to him on the phone about caching together next Monday. It was Marc_54140 and his niece.

I had every thing laid out looking at the contents for the heck of it and heard voices from above. I stuffed the container back where I had found it and hastily covered it back up as well as I found it and managed to get 25 feet away from it before encountering them on the way down. Marc asked…did you find it? And I mumbled no…before fessing up that I did indeed find it.

Cool how these things happen. I did the other new cache in the area with them and shared a first find in the process.

I have both a GPS III and the GPS V and have found over 350 with the GPS III. I have been using the GPS V to get me to the parking or general area, then switch to the GPS III to do my field work.

In a nut shell, I’m glad that I bought it but I haven’t quite figured how to change stuff as quick in the field as the older unit. Some day it will be my primary.

I have to agree with brkster! That is an outstanding rate of caching for living so far north! Congrats!!!
