I have quite a few in the Waukesha County Parks and most were reviewed within 48 hours. Sounds like yours got lost. I would re-submit it.

For me I use Premium Members only for unique containers. Out of over 260 hides I think I have only used Premium Member only about 10 times. We hide our cache to be found and making them Premium Member would make them unavailable to many of the new cachers. I haven’t seen a recent number, but 2 years ago I saw that only 25% were Premium Members. One cacher in this area makes all of his hides Premium Member only and that didn’t stop someone from stealing a series he had of 25 caches. They took all but 2 or 3 that were harder finds.

The only possible change that I would like to see now is a minimum number of votes to win – say 5. With the increase in nominations and the requirement of having found the cache to be eligible to vote for it I think some of the nominees may be winning with 1 or 2 votes. One persons favorite might be everyone elses dud. This is evidenced by some of the new West Bend P&G’s having favorites stars on them. It would be nice to keep the integrity of what COTM was meant to be. The alternative would be to publish how many votes a cache got similar to how many favorite stars a cache may have.

You can change your vote if a better cache comes up after you have voted. Also you must have found the cache in order to vote for it. Many of the rules were developed to eliminate solicitation of votes from cachers who had not or may never find a nominated cache. COTM should be for interesting and fun hides that have stood the test of time. Popularity doesn’t neccesarily equate to quality.

Here’s just a collection of my thoughts.
I use COTM and Groundspeaks favorites to make sure we hit the popular caches when we travel.
I like the amount of zones in the new system, but I have noticed that by having more caches nominated each month there have been some real duds in there.
The 90 day rule is good as some caches do die off quickly, but at the same time I think people forget about a cache that they may have nominated without the rule. Maybe a few of these caches or series would’ve had more hits if they could’ve been nominated.
I think it’s too soon to consider changes after all of the effort that went into the new format.

Let’s give it a little more time and everyone should remember to place quality hides.

I agree with Dave that there is a place for good low rated urban hides. I found a 1.5/1.5 nano hidden on the outside of a Magic Shop last week. How cool is that? While not reachable by a person in a wheelchair they could spot it. On the other hand we found a small cache hidden low in evergreens at a library that a person in a wheelchair would’ve taken a header on. It was rated 1/1.

I saw attempt at discussion of a new trend and not whining but it could easily go that route. Thanks for your opinion, too.

I have heard this hider has a disability which may have spurred his urban P&Gs. How many of us go out of our way to think of caches the disabled can access? I know I seldom think that way and have only twice published 1T caches.

If so I apologize, but that would have been something helpful to know ahead of time as it could be a whole different topic from a different point of view. I have been on the trail with wheelchair cachers and even a blind cacher and the thrill of the find is just as high for them, but in different ways.

I was finding a dead end cache a few weeks back and they the next day took a disabled friend to that same cache I almost go beat up but I guy cause I geuss their truck has been broken it to before and he didn’t know why we were looking around my his property. We were not on his property but he was still very concerned so we talked to him about Geocacheing and we all walked away with out anyone getting hurt. In fact he said he might even check into seeking them too. I believe every cache should be known about to the houses they maybe right near so the people there don’t think other things are happening cause this is not the first time a concerned adult has come out of their home to ask what I am doing. Someone eventually will get hurt if it continues like this. This is just my view and I know I’m new to this whole thing , but I don’t want to be hurt over a log book or kids toy.

The solution for you on this subject is simple fdlseeker. There are something like 14,000 geocaches hidden in Wisconsin. I might be off by 1K, but there are a lot. Stop looking for these urban caches and get out in the woods where goecaching belongs. Personally I have no sympathy for cachers who get into situations like you did with the abundance of caches that there are to choose from. I may be a little harsh, but every time this topic comes up it’s the same whining over and over again. I’m not critcizing Muggle B for bringing up the subject, but everyone just move on to the next cache.

Residential caches can be interesting. The one that pops into my mind is GC1W9WT , but it is a little different then a few others that I have found. I do understand your concern.

That’s a really great cache although we did sit in the SUV for a few minutes before getting out to attempt it. There were people in the yard and we approached them first to explain what we were doing. They gave us a nice history of this unusual beacon.

I don’t mind caches in private yards if the coordinates take you to the right home which they usually don’t. It would be nice if the address was in the hint so you know you are in the right place. I have had to make two trips to several caches like this not knowing if I was in the right place the first time. Most of these are hidden by new geocachers which compounds the problem.

There’s too much going on this week for us to make the trip there this year, but I would have loved to have seen Newsboys, MercyMe, Andy Park, Laura Story, FFH, Skillet, & Lincoln Brewster. Not to mention that there are about a dozen caches hid there by ten different cachers! Hopefully next year…

I looked up all of those names on groundspeak and couldn’t find anything. then I realized they were music groups. Just kidding even though I hadn’t neard of these groups. Sounds like something that would be fun to attend some year since we are country music fans and believe in higher beings like God and Signal.

Drop your phone on a rock or into a creek and then decide. I have had the same Garmin for 5 years and have done both several times.

Thank you to everyone who responded to the poll. Although the response was small it was helpful in deciding which way to go when releasing the coordinates for the new caches. The new caches will be published at approxiamately midnight the night before the event begins. You will still need to register when the event begins at noon on Friday and get your booklet for stamping. A formal announcement will be made as the event draws nearer and everyone is signed up.
