I would get permission from your mother first. Sounds like a pretty stupid place for a cache. Sorry to sound negative, just my opinion.

We went to this interesting, but poorly promoted event today. The Erewhon website had very little detail about specifics. It turns out that there was a large enclosed tent with the vendors in. We did see some interesting products there. There may have been more promotion for the Ice Age Trail portion on the IAT website, but I didn’t look at that. The IAT Cold Cache part would be of particular interest to geocachers. They gave you coordinates for models of five glacial features hidden throughout the shopping center and you had to answer questions at each one. If you completed all five you got one point towards the Cold Cache program. It was like doing temporary Earth Caches. It only runs tomorrow yet and with better weather this would be a good family activity. If you go remember to take your gps’r or they also had loaners.

Did you post a note on the cache page that you removed the container per CR___?

Did you go to active missions and submit a report that you completed the Mission?

Contact WisKid and let him know what you did.

Congratulations. Great choice for a milestone. We hope to do this one early next month. Enjoyed reading your log.

    This was an excellent cache
It was from 2002 and has a 20% dnf rate.
My first trip flooding turned me back. The second trip I found all of the waypoints, but couldn’t find the final.
The next trip was another unsuccessful hunt for the final.
It was quite rewarding to make the find today.
Some points would’ve been nice, but I play the game as a service and for fun.
Many of the lonelies I have found have been some of the best caches I have found.

We use Energizer 2450mAh rechargable. We have an extra set for each gps’r. I recharge one set about once a week. I cache 3-4 times a week and for about 12 -16 hours. No matter what brand you use remember to mark the date you started using them on each battery. If all of them look the same it is hard to tell which ones are wearing out and need replacing. I have found they last about 2 years.

Congrats Dave. Glad you could find this one, bet you can’t pronounce it.

Usually libraries, museums and similar buildings are OK. They are not commercial caches like a retail business would be considered.

Is the cache going to be inside? While that’s not strictly forbidden, it will make it more difficult to get published.

I re-read your post and see that you state in the establishment. Very little chance of getting it published if it is inside. Something like one in a million. Having to go inside makes it a commercial cache which is not allowed.

Just simply state on the cache page description that you have permission from the owner. If they find out later that you lied — well I won’t tell you what will happen, but it isn’t pretty. The reviewer will trust that you actually did this. I keep records of verbal or written permissions in case there is a problem in the future. It’s also a good idea to go beyond the permission and actually show the property owner where the cache is. This can help in situations that look suspicious and may be reported to authorities by muggles.

It must have been an error in photo image. I looked at it this morning and it was the Oregon.

in reply to: Paper Geocoins #1947038

I picked a “paper coin” up in Racine today. GPBJHH
It’s just not the same. They did attach a trinked that was themed to the coin.
We keep all of the coins that we aquire.
Almost all of the travel bugs we have put out have dissapeared.
It doen’t really add much to the game for us with or without them.

in reply to: Gas Prices #1946873

I suppose I should also post a serious answer to the question. Sunshine and I are both semi-retired so it is easy for us to make time for geocaching. We cache with other geocachers and in the 4-1/2 years since we started have attended over 60 events. This Saturday we will be going to our sixth event this year. Geocaching is very much a social thing for us so it wouldn’t easily be given up. Instead of going out for dinner we’ll make a dinner out part of an out of town caching trip. Both of our SUV’s get moderately good gas mileage so we don’t mind the cost of the gas required for an outing. Our usual trips to caches are in the 30-50 mile range as we don’t have many large pockets of caches closer. So I don’t think current gas prices will affect our caching much. $5 a gallon may be a different story.

I suppose you’re cutting back on those weekly visits to church, too. 🙄 😉

I was going to put that one down too, but I was afraid I might be targeted with a lightening bolt next time I was out in the woods.
