Congratulations on both accounts. It was great caching with you and your cute kids last weekend.

Our families favorite state park is Kohler Andraes State Park in Sheboygan. There are around 27 within the park and 76 within 7 miles of the park. Lots of trails along the beautiful sand dunes
27 caches, that intrigued me. I checked the map and only found 7 within the park.

Well, I was born XX years ago on this date. So I’ll probably be eating cake. Preferably carrot cake. Maybe caching, maybe not!
Puzzle cache?

So I’ll blame it all on Ralph. He has to satisfy the firebug in him. We invited him to visit our campsite and he showed up Friday before we even had a campfire going. I think he was just looking for dinner which we did graciously supply and enjoyed his and Laurens company. I think the other problem late on Saturday afternoon was that the temperature was starting to drop and I know some who planned on grilling changed their minds. We were living outdoors all weekend and took it in stride.
I’m really not complaining. I just wanted to post under this topic and see if I’m still getting those double and triple posts.
Everything was great EXCEPT what happened to grills ready round #2?The fire was almost out, no more charcoal and we were the only ones eating in the pavilion after the raffle. I’m guessing it was a cut and paste typo error that didn’t get edited out?
I’ll second Hartman Creek. Lot’s of good caches within 10 miles of the park. We’re able to hike, swim and fish on a 3 day trip there and still have time to leave the park and find 25-30 caches. There always seem to be a few new ones being hidden.
Point Beach is another good one and all of the above applies as well as a 6 mile bike trail within the park that will lead you to some of the caches.
Just read the cache page, it’s a puzzle.

I just checked the weather. Chance of rain Friday night and Saturday. That made it easy to make out final decision on camping. WE’RE CAMPING.
heater – check
0 degree sleeping bags – check
rain gear – check
fixin’s for s’mores – check
bear repellant – checkConcentrate on selecting a good water tight container and forget the silica. In placing over 200 hides I can count on one hand the containers that leaked. I quickly changed to something better and the problem was gone.

The enjoyment I’ve been having with the challenges is why I recently published one (Wisconsin Rustic Roads Challenge.) I enjoy traveling the Rustic Roads of WI and I thought others might as well. It’s not for everyone. But, hopefully it gives people who do like to have a goal in mind something new to work towards.
You can’t go wrong with the WRR Challenge. You get to drive on a rustic road and get a smilie each time. We’ve only found a dozen or so, but have had some very scenic rides and seen a few unexpected features along with them. We always look to see if there are any in the area we will be in.

Bill, If I’m not mistaken, you actually have a choice of three letterbox cemetery hides over that way. Check out sandlanders’ profile for them.
My problem right now is that there are too many great caches at or near the oicnic and not enough time. I’m glad we’re planning on being there for a 3-day weekend.
AS FAR AS LOOKING AT THE SANDLANDERS PROFILE, THAT’S ONE PLACE I’M STAYING AWAY FROM AFTER JUST SPENDING WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON ONE OF THEIR PUZZLES IN PREPARATION FOR THE WEEKEND. AFTER SEVERAL E-MAILS BACK AND FORTH PAT FINALLY GOT SICK OF ME AND GAVE ME THE COORDINATES.
Actually I’m just kidding, but I’m sure Pat had a good laugh on that one and my ineptness. The Sandlanders have been a great help to us getting ready for the weekend with cache info and some great help on the campsites which is where we will be staying.@geolivestrong wrote:
As one of the people that I’m sure was largely responsible for this poll in the first place I will say that obviously I like them. As some have already said I think that it gives me some focus on what I might want to do with my time caching. In the end they are like anything else, if you don’t like them then ignore them.
As to the question of publication, I have never published a challenge cache that I haven’t already qualified for myself, plus some. I generally will figure out what I have done and then lop off a reasonable amount to make it attainable for the vast majority of cachers.
And as for the number of challenge caches….there are currently 31 challenge caches listed on the U.S. Challenge Caches bookmark list in the whole state. Add to that the five or so challenges that have been added leading up to the picnic and we are now up to a whopping 36! I’m not sensing a saturation issue here quite yet. I just wish they had a separate icon so they were easier to find. 😕
When I first saw all of your new challenges near the picnic I thought this was overkill. Then I looked at them more closely and saw that they are well designed. One was easy to fulfill with the amount of finds that we have. The cemetery county one doesn’t interest us at this time, but so what. I’m sure Marc will like it. I thought the cemetery variety one was a little tough. A letterbox in a cemetery, come on now. Then I realized that you had a plan and there is a WSQ letterbox nearby. On our must do list now. The rest I’m sure we fulfill. We try to get WRR caches whereever we go now, although it may take a while to meet the requirements. I agree that the challenges give extrs purpose when visiting areas out of our homebase. When your finds start to mount you need more than guardrails and lamposts to keep you going. Keep them coming.
