how about how many caches does that top hider keep up out of the ones they put out
Well that’s a little insulting. We maintain all of ours regularly and my experience is that the people on this list do as well, even the top hider. I believe he has a car full of bison tubes ready to repair and replace as needed.
I think one of the main motives for those who hide in large numbers is that they enjoy it and all of the aspects of it including maintenance. For me it is the satisfaction that i get out of knowing that I’m contributing to the enjoyment of the sport. There isn’t anyone on that list that just drives down the road and tosses film canisters out the window. These hiders have given much thought to where a hide goes and what you will find when you get there. My thoughts are coming from someone who just misses the cut to be in the top 10 with 160 caches placed.
Country Springs has a great water park. Area people use it for kids birthday parties regularly. Also there is a cache within walking distance on the bike trail that passes just behind the hotel. There is also a pirate themed island cache close by on Pewaukee lake that is only .3 miles off shore with good ice right now.

This is starting to sound like the “witness protection program”.
Maybe geocaching is where they hide all of them.

That’s always been our approach as well. Kids can sometimes even come in helpful in getting the cache retrieved for those of us who are only kids at heart now. Trekkin’ had just such an experience caching in Rochester MN.
Why do you think we take our grandkids with us? I’ve never been bitten when sticking my hand in a hole and I’ve never fallen out of a tree yet.
I’m OK with clear containers for State Parks. We’ve found a lot of caches in State Parks that were’nt well hidden and could easily be stumbled upon by unknowing visitors and cause a stir. I’ve never labled an ammo box yet, but after this topic posted I ordered labels to add to some existing ones and for future hides. I think it’s our obligation to cooperate to protect the future of geocaching.
This isn’t official, but I had a list already made and just updated the totals. I didn’t take into account any cachers who may have a lot of hides and not many finds.

Nope. We cache without paper. All that’s needed is something like a PDA or the fancy Oregon GPSr that all the cool kids have. We’re not cool, so we use our nuvi like a PDA.
I think your cool. 🙂
Sounds like a bribe for a vote.
I am so offended!! I use brownies for that. 🙂
I love brownies, need a vote?

The Scrappy Outdoorsmen
Our cache “Eight Tiny Reindeer” won the December ’09 COTM which is an honor we are proud of and don’t take lighty. It is a fun series, however we have two other series that we are more proud of and are more deserving. The right cache doesn’t always win the honor. After reading all of the tales of preparation and the journey for Wet Maze in my mind it meets all of the criteria to be a COTM. If we don’t give credit to the truly classic and fundamental caches that geocaching was originally intended to be we’ll end up honoring “Magnet in the Guardrail” as COTM someday.
WTG! Congratulations on #100 and have fun hiding caches.

That is a norm when I go to Gander, spending over $50 that is.
However, There are other similar stores within visual distance of this one where the same $$$ will get you way more (based on my experience with the sports that I participate in).
And for the record – I think it is very misleading, leaning way towards being commercial. If the wording was changed then maybe I’d change my opinion, but as is it’s very misleading.
Oh – and all you need to do is ask at the desk. No check off sheet or validation required.
Sounds like it ended up being the old “if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is”. The $10 off of $50 is probably one of the most easy to come by. We get them in the mail all the time for lots of stores. Think about it; that’s only 20% off. Not such a bargain in this economy. However, I wouldn’t keep this from keeping me from stopping for this cache next time we pass by and Gander Mountain is great even if your just browsing. We stopped to browse at the one in Waukesha last week and I got a pair of $40 camo slippers for $12. Even better was that Sunshine bought them for me. I still haven’t figured out what I’ll be owing her in the future for that.
We noticed 2 weeks ago when we were at the GNG Event up north the lack of attributes on cache pages. You’ll have to go south to find our caches (over 100 active) and we have had hundreds of logged finds on them since the first snow fell. Our criteria for the snowflake icon is:
snowflake present – if you can’t find it your not a winter cacher
no snowflake – there’s still a good chance you’ll find it.
snowflake crossed out – if you find it you’re a better winter cacher than me@HeliDood wrote:

I think this goes way beyond what “Off Topic” was intened for.
Oh? I was under the impression that off topics were off topics. Suppose you’re suggesting that off topics should be more “on topic”?
This is a subcect more suited for an editorial in a local newspaper.
I sincerely hope you aren’t so uncomfortable reading your local newspaper as you are reading this thread.
For anyone else who is concerned, clicking a thread titled “city crime rates”, they shouldnt be surprised when they discover a thread thats about city crime rates.
I think it’s time for the board to do something about this guy Helidood. He is definitely not an asset to the WGA.
Wow! I’m a little surprised to see something like this here. I think this goes way beyond what “Off Topic” was intened for. This is a subcect more suited for an editorial in a local newspaper. I was very uncomfortable reading this post and think it should be locked before it gets out of hand.
