Congratulations. I checked out the math test and wouldn’t know where to start.

Our daughter’s family (opps5) lives 10 minutes away so we see them all summer. Becky is a teacher at the same school that all 3 kids attend. So now we begin our vacation of sorts away from the kids during the day, however we will miss our geo-buddies. We spent the day with 12 year old Emma last Sunday and toured a historic home and found 23 caches. We geo-camped with them this summer and spent a week at their lake cottage with them. I feel like I’m writing a report on what I did during my summer vacation.

Still waiting for a picture of grandpa with the baby.

I think 50 new caches is a draw for out of town people. I know when we go out of town we have a tendancy to seek newer caches as they are generally still there and in better condition. We hunted a mix last weekend and found this to be true even in WB. I have 50 hides within 5 miles of our house and I have found that the out of town caches find more of the newer ones than the older ones too. The objective is to keep this a Mega Event which will require continually expanding the base to draw cachers from.

You’re smile tells it all. Congratulations to both you and Dick and welcome to the Grandparents Club.

My odds would go down…very few folks found 50+ caches…for each team which didn’t, my odds were better. I like winning….I guess I’m shallow like that. But like I said, I’d still come whatever the format would be and I’d guess that would hold true for most folks.

But also consider that I might pop in at registration, go home, and come back later in the day to see if I won….no real incentive for me to hang out in town if I didn’t feel like it….

I guess that makes sense. 300 teams x 25 tickets average (?)=7500 tickets
    7500 tickets/all 50 tickets= 1 in 150 ticket chance.

Still… if we had 45 small prizes along with the 5 big cash prizes…
    300 teams x 2 adults = 600 people/50 prizes = 1 in 12 chance of winning something. [/i]

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PUZZLE CACHE. THERE GO MY TICKETS.

It didn’t seem like there were that many more people around at 4:30 than last year even though more logged that they intended. I think the day may have gotten a little long for some of the families with small kids. Maybe they only found a few caches and didn’t figure they had a chance of winning. I like the idea of less tickets per team or adult. Like I have said previouly that the social aspects of the weekend are more important than the geocaches and we will return no matter how many caches of tickets there are.

Some geocaching experiences are worth more than the find. This is one of them. We got to spend time with a family from Canada. Here’s their log.

WOW…….. What an experience. For someone who is from out of town, more like out-of-country, myself and my kids were welcomed with smiles and warm hello’s everywhere we went throught out our 5 day vaction to your lovely town.
Because of a terrible illness, my husband, who had a heart attack and stroke on July 5th, couldn’t come with us to this mulit-event weekend, I asked the West Bend Chambers committee to talk with there local geo-cacher members if someone would buddy up with me and my kids if we needed the company or support. With the help of Craig and PharmGirl, they found two caching teams that were willing to help us out.

I would like to thank Mr. Greenthumb and Sunshine along with his daughter and grandchildren for taking us on. It was a great help to know there was someone there if we needed company. I would like to thanks craig and Pharmgirl for taking the time to find someone for us and to make sure we were doing OK throughout the whole weekend. Also, I would like to thank the WBC committe, the Mayor, the local towns people and local geo-cachers and all visiting cachers for the warm hello’s to complete strangers and for organizing such a great event.

Team ABoudreau, Angela (Mom), Stephanie (daughter), and Jonathen (son) enjoyed out 5 day adventure to West Bend, WI from Sutton, Ontario. Thnaks for everything…………..

Oh and BTW…we as it turns out were not immune to the Poison Ivy. Tim got a pretty good case of it; I only had a few red dots on one leg (maybe 5) which is odd because I lead most of the day. (I think he wanted me to get all the spider webs in my face and get attacked by all the critters lurking in the woods- I hear tell there is a Woolly Mammoth and a Goatman running amok).

Ya, and that whole trekking through the tall grass and thicket for #33…I’m pretty sure it was my trail the rest of you followed. 😳 Without the cache page to tell me expressly not to do this I was on my own to find a way over…Next year long pants it is.

I got a mild case of poison ivy at 914. The professor was smart, he said “I’m not going in that poison ivy”. As far as I know I’m the only one of our group that got it. I had low socks on and that probably wasn’t a good idea. Somewhere during the day I also got a spider bite that itches a lot. Today I got stung by a wasp. I also found 5 caches this morning making all of this misery worth it.

I did not cache. I stayed at the park all day, and bummed around. Visited with others teams that were coming and going. Met alot of cachers.

    1. Have fewer caches for the 2010 event. Would make it easier for everyone to find all of them. And there are plenty of other caches for everyone to find.

    2. Following up on 2. This would give more time for Teams to socialize.

    3. Another follow up on 2. Have more activities to do at the park. A second bingo card with Team Names, perhaps a 3rd with faces. Selected cachers have an item to turn over if someone introduces themselves. A Team bingo card – which team has completed the most objectives. Etc ……..

Weigh the socializing with the caching – give lots of tickets for that as well.

    4. Concentration? Well, the bad would mean everyone running into each other. The good, cachers would not have to travel so far.

    5. Activities – a lot of kids this year. More activities for them.

    6. Vendors. Had a couple of people ask me where the coin dealers were located.

That just goes to show that here’s a cacher with more finds than most of us and he came for the socializing. If I would have known Marc was that much fun I would have stayed in the park and hung out with him all day. I like all of Marc’s ideas for a little something more for thsse who choose to spend more time in the park. In the three years that we’ve been geocaching we’ve been to 30+ events. Socializing is a big part of geocaching for us. In between we’ve also had time to find nearly 2000 hides and place 120+ of our own. From all of the comments so far I think most of what went on this year was a good blend of something for everyone. Some of the suggestions for a little tweaking here and there will undoubtedly make for a 2010 Event to satisfy everyone.

Congratulations on another step closer to 10k. It’s always nice to see you caching in this part of the state.

Yeah, helping out the “newbies” in the class was one of the most rewarding experiences of the weekend for me. It was great to re-group with them at the end of the day and learn that they were able to go out and find 16 of the event caches. They also learned that a garmin nuvi is not really a good geocaching unit (in the field).

I would definitely volunteer to do it again if asked.

I would have also volunteered for some of the other tasks like the breakfast but I wanted to attend with my family and forcing them to get up that early just wasn’t going to happen! 🙂

It’s amazing to see how many of those cachers found all 52 (53 minus the MIA water cache) caches. My family didn’t “power cache” but we did find way more as a family then we ever have before.

We spent Friday night with our grandchildren and a Mother with 2 kids from Ontario. We did the two downtown multis with them and were also accompanied by Tim of Blackbelts, Earth angel, Gr@nny and Niens. It was rewarding to help out someone who was toyally unfamiliar with the area. On Saturday we met several new geocaching families when doing the longer hike caches to the north. We offerred help and tips whenever needed. It was especially fun to see a few newer cachers trying to figure out what a letterbox/hybrid was as they looked in the wrong places. We didn’t let them look too long and then helped them out.
