Sunshine collects them and has them attached to a loggable trackable charm bracelet that she wears to events. There is a picture of it on the trackable coin page (KS8K30) that she won at an event. The coin is what you are logging for this and not each pathtag that’s on the bracelet. Sometimes she removes them and makes trades. We met a geocacher from Michigan named Jellyfish who came to an event in Wisconsin just to try and coax a pathtag away from Sunshine that was very sought after. He gave her two pathtags and his own personal really cool jellyfish coin in trade. L’dove has a necklace that has enough pathtags attached to it to be considered a weapon.

Congratulations to a couple of great geocaching teams who also happen to be two great families.

I usually have about 100 on my watchlist.

I watch my dnf’s to try to get more info for the next attempt or to not to even try again.

I watch new caches in the area to see logs from the other group of about a dozen who are usually the first finders.

I watch caches in areas that are near places I would like to place a cache so I know when they are done and archived.

[quoteTHB has mentioned a few times that he isn’t motivated by big numbers. I’m sure that’s true, but you really have to wonder what would happen if THB ever got motivated.[/quote]

You wonder how Seth is holding up this week sitting on 9,998 and waiting for the big day this Saturday.

I was really driven last year to get to 1k and when we finally reached it there was a big let down. During the time since then we have concentrated more on destination caching. Last Saturday we went to Old World Wisconsin, walked around there for 3 hours and had lunch at the Clausing Barn. We followed that up with 5 finds, 3 of which were at historic sites. Sunday we went to Cedarburg and rode our bikes on the Interurban Trail and found 6 caches along the way. That is a typical caching weekend for us now. I go out a grab a few during the week and we’re actually finding more per month than when we would try for bigger quantity days. I am looking forward to hitting 2k which is only a few months away, but only because it is a number that not really many geocachers will stick with the game long enough to achieve. Events and caching with other teams is also something we are enjoying to do more of. We also get more satisfaction out of the response to our hides, than our number of finds.

In 2-1/2 years we have logged 156 dnf’s. Some are multiples and almost all have information as to why we couldn’t find the cache. I look at the log on a dnf when we make another attempt. Today I found 4 caches and had 2 dnf’s. I sent the cache owner a detaled e-mail explaining the circunstances of both dnf’s. As the owners of over 100 caches hidden we check all hides if they have 2 dnf’s in a row. We felt a little inadequate getting a dnf when we first started, but now view it as a valuable tool.

I went back and checked and we have cleared 58 of those dnf’s for a net of 98, many of which are now missind and disable or archived.

Congratulations. Hope to be close behind you at 2k.

    I digress…

Maybe it was a really large cache and there was some trading going on.

I’m working on a personal challenge right now somewhat related to this subject. How often do you drive past a cemetery or dead end and say there must be a cache there. I’ve found a dead end and a cemetery cache just by stopping without knowing if there really is one there. I’m still working on findind a park and ride this way.

I’ve found several Ranger Boy stages of multi’s. Found a few caches by accident while searching for hiding spots. At least a half dozen letterboxes, some as close as 5′ to geocaches.

100%. I haven’t decided which State to tackle next when we’re done with Wisconsin.

I do know a few cachers who like to hunt for caches, once in awhile they will sign the log book and once in a great whilelog it on GC.com. That’s the way the want to play the game. And there’s the few muggles who find the cache, have no clue what they have found and sign the log book.
I have one particular cache that was signed by a team of DNR & County Foresters who found the cache with out the aid of GPS. It was one of my first hides.

We found a cache at a soccer field in Jefferson that had just been found minutes before by a girls soccer team. They saw the previous cacher find the cache and were curious. They went over and found it after he had left. The whole team signed the log and then went back to their game.

With over 100 caches placed I have replaced many of our log books and I would say on average they have about 10% more signatures than what are logged on the cache page. We know several geocachers who find caches regularly and do not log them.

Congratulations, this is the next milestone number that we’re looking forward to. Thanks for including some of our hides in your total.
