I agree. I am not a vet, but I would rule out mange if it has a nice coat on it. It won’t last too much longer though. By April it will probably be looking like it went through a war. That fur will start thinning out due to shedding and all that runnung through brush will really take it’s toll. The coyotes will go after a fox whenever possible due to the food competition. Because of this, the fox will stick to the thickest of cover where the coyotes have a hard time.
A male gray fox will travel up to 50 miles to set up a territory. And a pair which is believed to mate for life will defend a territory of 2-3 square miles.
A male red fox will travel 100-150 miles to set up its own territory. Breeding season for both is January-March.The one you have seen, I’m guessing a male, could very well have been run out of a certain area by another male competing for a female and is looking for his own place and a vixen to boot.
A piece of trivia for you: A gray fox is capable of climbing trees and have been seen as high as twenty feet. They can also jump from one branch to another. Assuming of course that the branches are big enough. They weigh up to 13 pounds.
Thanks, Jeriamiah Johnson. What are you anyway, a fur trapper? LOL
Sent a PM on the one’s that I would be interested in.
02/07/2009 at 4:35 am in reply to: Shameless self promotion, not exactly geocaching related…. #1901847Congratulations on your birdin’ accomplishment. Today was an eventful bird day for us too. The woods were awake with the sound of birds today as the weather warmed. It made each step on the trails more enjoyable. On a down note I hit a Red-Tailed Hawk taking off from a roadkill on our way to caching today. It was a glancing blow and I’m hoping that it survived. So I guess you could say we had a day full of “trekkin’ and birdin’.”
As I previously mentioned I found and nominated the January COTM for Dr. Dolittle who is a good friend. While I usually don’t vote for COTM since most have not been nearby, I nominated Ron’s more as a tribute to his movie puzzles which are very popular here. To me the COTM award isn’t that big of a deal since I knew that the winner usually had a very small number of votes. However, I was very troubled when I saw Ron’s solicitation for BOD votes, especially since it was also done as a log on someone else’s cache page. I would hate to see the BOD spend time on monitoring the COTM voting, but messing with the BOD votes should be top priority. Unfortunately a small number of the membership votes now, but I do believe that they do vote well informed. I personally got to talk to every member running this year and made my decision based on that. It would be disasterous it the BOD election turned into a popularity contest. I feel somewhat resposible for some of this controversy and apologize to all WGA members if I offended you. I’m proud to be a WGA member and strive to represent them resposibly in all of my geocaching activities.

yep, you are right, they are steel. Just take a flap wheel on you angle grinder, and it will take the paint right off….
Yes, as was stated, you want to clean it good.
Common mistake though is thinking that Gunpowder is an explosive..
I reload a ton of ammo for my other hobby, NRA Highpower Rifle. And NRA Bullseye Pistol. Modern Smokeless Powder is NOT and explosive. It is a Accelerant Propellant. it takes the Primer, which is explosive to ingite it. I It will burn, but it will not explode. Now Blackpowder is another story. This will explode if sparked, or even put under pressure.
as long as you clean the can out good, you will not have a problem. Simple Soap and Water will do this wonderful, or some Hoppe’s Number 9 Gun Cleaning solution..
As far as welding, Keep your current down, and watch your wire speed if you are using a wire feed, and you will not have a problem.
let us know how it turns out!
Thanks for all of these good tips, Norm.
I’ll confess that I nominated Doctor Dolittles Looney Tunes for COTM. I was solicited to do so, but would not have nominated it if it wasn’t deserving. Yes, Ron and I are good friends. Alot of geacachers had a great time solving the puzzle and reminiscing over Saturday morning cartoons. I know that at least one of the needed cartoon answers eluded both me and Martin of the Goldidiggers. We both used our knowledge of the area to determine the likely hiding spot and the final number. Sometimes awards are given out for overall achievements although it is attached to one accomplishment. Anyone from this area will attest to the fact that Ron has some of the best caches in the area. So on that I’ll end and say congratulations Ron, or as Fred would say Yabba Dabba Do!
Congratulations. The first one to 10,000 is the one who can run faster through the brush with a baby in a backpack.

It sure would be nice if the WGA or someone nice (like Marc) would offer a class on the basics. We would definately be interesed and a youngster like the Pharmgirl definately needs help before she runs out of money.
Surely you aren’t referring to marc_54140 when you say you want help from someone nice?! 😀
I only met Marc once, so it must have been on one of his good days.
I would be interested in any info that would be beneficial before investing any money. We’re not the smartest when it comes to technology, so we’ve treaded slowly. So far everything that we’ve done to upgrade has been in the areas of accessability and now we’re turning towards convenience.
Congratulations to a great 3 person team.
Congratulations on 1K, but the 229 puzzles impresses me even more. Way to go.
Congratulations on another girl team reaching this milestone.
I was hesitating to reply to this post, since am as dumb as or dumber than Pharmgirl. We started caching with Etrex Legends because the first one was a gift. We’ve since purchased two more, but will probably upgrade someday. Finally got a Garmin for in the vehicle last summer, should’ve done it sooner. Found our first 1200 caches with dial-up, got broadband in December. In my defense over Pharmgirl, at least I’m old and it takes me longer to adapt. Paperless caching is something we would like to get into, but I haven’t a clue what’s involved except for what we’ve seen when out caching with friends that do it. It sure would be nice if the WGA or someone nice (like Marc) would offer a class on the basics. We would definately be interesed and a youngster like the Pharmgirl definately needs help before she runs out of money.
It usually catches up overnight when worldwide logging rares are high on weekends. I’ve had watchlist and log notifications coming in slowly all day on caches that I had already known about activity on from conversations with other cachers.
Don’t tell my wife about this forum. If she reads some of these posts I’ll be spending so much time cleaning I won’t have any time for geocaching.
2 Etrex Legends on the trail.
A Nuvi 200 in the SUV.
The Legends loose signals all the time, but with two we’ve still managed to come up with over 1300 finds in 2 years.
We’ve had the Nuvi for about 10 months and could never get by again without it.
Someday we’ll upgrade, but we’re slow. We finally upgraded from dial-up to high speed last month. -
