May 30th. I like Dean’s idea of an event or some type of gathering if the timing is right and it could be arranged.

Congratulations. Nice to have finally met you at Appleton last week and then see you again the past weekend in Waukesha. Thanks for choosing a couple of our hides while you were here.

I’m interested and I’m sure others are too. Where can we find out about what’s involved and planned for the various committees?

Unfortunately, you don’t have that option as a cache owner. You can only delete their logs, not edit them in any way. You can, of course, ask them to change it before you delete it. (To save you an email, reviewers can’t edit them either, only delete.)[/quote]

Dave, what you said is actually what I meant, I guess that I just wasn’t clear. A friendly note asking a German friend to change their log to a note would promote good relations rather than just deleting their log.

The biggest problem with the election is the small percentage of the membership that votes. Last year I had a hard time deciding who to vote for as it was my first opportunity. This year I’m happy to say that I have had the pleasure of meeting all of the candidates although that isn’t helping in my final decision. They are all dedicated and qualified, some just a little more than others. Any information that can be given to new members and first time voters will be a beneficial tool. It will only lead to more feeling of ownership and encouragement to get more involved. I know it has for me, but then again I now have trouble getting by without some exposure to geocaching on a daily basis. Got to go, there’s a new cache nearby. Don’t forget to vote.

Trudy & I also logged Four Windows and What in the world, but we changed our logs to memos. We have no need to pad our stats with virtual finds. We also had a recent visit from our German Friends [CaLLiBRi & Jazzy ] since nobody else is pointing their finger. They have been making a tour of the States, logging virtual caches from coast to coast. Since their only Wisconsin cache is Don’t look at your hands, it is a bit blatant. perhaps I should log a virtual find at each of their hides, since they wish to play by that set of rules. I don’t have time to deal with them at the moment (I’m late for work), but I will deal with them tonight, after work.

Maybe instead of just deleting logs we could take the Beast’s idea of just writing a note instead of an “I found it”. I would hope that foreign visitors are searching for interesting things rather than just an unearned smiley.

in reply to: Seldom have I Seen Just a Great Event #1900693

This was the 19th event that we’ve attended and one of the best. We always ask when it’s over would we attend agin and the answer is yes. What was unique about this event is that it grew out of the quest to find a cache and became a gathering that was not about finding caches as many events are. Instead it was a meeting of WGA members who truly enjoy what they do and want to share their experiences. I heard many ideas here that would srengthen the organization. Thanks to Alex for the opportunity to meet all of the new great people in attendance and see old friends too. This was a truly inspiring event that couldn’t have come at a better time after the previous week’s weather. The Fox Valley area is now on our must visit again list.

Congratulations. Glad to have met you and your son at the event. Thanks for some easy grabs on the way home Sunday.

Congratulations Pete. It was great to finally meet you in person Saturday. I was in awe of the great respect and comraderie that the group you hang with have for each other.

We may stay overnight if we can find affordable lodging. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Since it’s only a 1-1/2 hour drive for us we don’t want to spend more than $75. Otherwise we’ll head back and cache at home on Sunday.

in reply to: New vote for the WGA LOGO!??! #1899876

I voted for John McCain and respect the final outcome of the election. However, I have decided to write my Congressman and request that the Presidential Election be reheld and I will cross my fingers for a different outcome. Maybe this will set the precedent for reholding any elections that we’re not happy with the results of.

BTW, I voted to keep the old logo.

We’ve camped at High Cliff and 2/3’s of the Family Sites have electricity. All of the non-electric sites are more for tent camping and there are a lot of really nice ones.

I don’t have a real strong opinion on the blanket permission that some geocachers are giving to replace missing caches. However I do have a strong opinion on giving back to the geocaching community which has become a cacth phrase of the Ecorangers whom I’ve become great friends with. Without them and Marc and Zuma and GR8EYES to name a few there wouldn’t be the number of caches for the rest of us to hunt that there are. While it is the cache owners resposibility to maintain their hides as I approach nearly 100 caches hidden this becomes a little more difficult. So my outlook is that if someone else can help out some of these great contributers there is nothing wrong with that. All of these geocachers are also in the small group out of the thousands that hold events and volunteer in many other ways. So thanks to all of you and I hope someday other cachers will feel this way about me too.

I may have asked this question in the past in a different forum, but when I click onto the bookmark list, why does it show 17 pages of the same thing? If I am looking to see if there are any lonely caches near my area, it is just a big waste of time paging through identical pages. I don’t have high speed internet.

I had the same problem and just switched to hispeed and now all is fine. Well not quite, Sunshine has threatened to switch as back to dialup if I don’t get off the computer. Now that I have hispeed I’m getting hooked on desk puzzles.
