Congratulations. I just hit 80 and am really looking forward to @100 so I know how you must feel. The nice part about having this many hides is the ability to enjoy the logs during times when you may not be out finding some yourself.

We used to avoid multis, but after finding a long and difficult one with Digital Dan (Wisconsin’s Multi Master with over 800 multis found) at the WGA Campout in May our appreciation for multis has greatly increased. That in turn has led to more interest in puzzles too which we’re still not very good at. A lot of this change in interest has also been due to hitting 1000 finds in late summer. Fun and interesting places are now replacing the quest for numbers.

I threw a really interesting rock at a kid in grade school once. Little did I know that someday this would come back to haunt me with all of the caches hidden in ROCKS!

We’ve had our Nuvi 200 for about 8 months and really like it. It’s easy to use and also download into. Sunshine likes it since I used to always insist I was going the right way even when I knew I wasn’t. It’s made our caching in unfamiliar places much more enjoyable. We’ve also used it several times to find food and gas. If you don’t want to spend a lot I would recommend it.

Congrats on 1200. That’s our next milestone coming up this week. Hope to find some of your hides when we come to your area in January for the LC Event.

Congratulations on your milestone and thanks for all of your volunteering help at events to make things enjoyable for all of the rest of us.

We still haven’t even found even half of the hides from the event. Since most of them are not going away for a while the more important part of the event for us was the social part. Shortening that would impact our decision to attend more than the quantity and type of caches. We go out caching at least twice a week so when we attend events it’s to see all of the friends that we.’ve made and meet some new ones.

There is nothing more fun than caching on a bright sunny winter day. Following the footprints in the snow and leaving a distracting trail for cachers following.

Whenever we take our three grandchildren along in the winter they make tracks in the snow all around the cache area and beyond to help make the find more difficult.

No bugs, no leaves, why wouldn’t you go out in the winter? We do more geocaching in the winter than other times of the year. Of course you need to be more selective with the caches you choose to search for. Check recent logs to find areas where more finds are made in the winter. The scenery in the winter can also make a winter find quite rewarding. Two of my most memorable finds last winter took 5 hours and 75 miles on a snowmobile. If your a winter person you can also be a winter geocacher.

Don’t count Diane out yet, she found a bunch today.

We hope this event happens. We miss Green Bay. Our son lived there for 10 years while he was the Village Adminstrator for Bellevue and we visited often. Unfortunately that was before we were geocachers. Now we pass by whenever we go to White Potato Lake but haven’t had a chance to do very many finds in Brown County yet. We’ve cached with Peach and Justin and look forward to meeting some of the other GB cachers. We’ll be watching for this one.

I got a list of some locations from the historical society. Unfortunately I can’t do anything with them as there are already caches within 528 feet and none of them with any historical reference to them. There are still a few avenues left to explore, but I’m not too terribly optimistic.

What about using the historical sites as waypoints for a multi cache or puzzle. That would be allowed within 528′ of the existing caches.

How about renting a bunch of cabins at a YMCA camp? All the benefits of the camp and it’s equipment (skis, sleds, skates, saunas), cheap lodging, and something that is definitely family oriented. Plus plenty of outdoors for those temp cache finding fixes if need be.

I looked up the event and it looks like it was a lot of fun. If we had been geocaching at the time we probably would have attended. We do most of our geocaching in the winter so we’re hoping for and event that we would want to attend. We probably wouldn’t drive more than 50 miles to a one day event, but a weekend outing would be of interest if the cost was reasonable.

    in reply to: Goals #1897454

I was really driven to reach 1000 finds and near the end didn’t always have as much fun as we used too. Since reaching that goal we’ve really slowed down. Last month we only found only 16 after averaging 60 per month during the last year. The past few weeks we’ve been picking scenic places to go and enjoying the total experience instead of just the finds. Yesterday we took our 11 year old grandaughter along who really enjoys geocaching and is as good at it as most of the adults. We all had a great time going 9 for 9 on a great fall day. I do have one goal that I am going for now and that is my 100th hide. I’m at 75 now and it will probably take almost a year to reach it. I’m concentrating more now on interesting and fun cache hides and neat places to visit.
