I try to bring my bike on my adventures whenever possible. Exercise and no gas = 😛
We’re planning on taking our bikes along on most trips. You never know when you’ll find a nice trail that wasn’t marked on any maps.
05/30/2008 at 3:16 pm in reply to: Geocaching shouldn’t have to cause more fuel consumption #1889814Our feelings are similar to Zuma’s. Each weekend we pick a destination. Then we look to see what geocaches are near there. Even if there are only 3 or 4 we still go. It’s not all about geocaching (although it is 90%), bur about the adventure. If you drive 200 miles round trip and get 20 miles per gallon the difference between $3 and $4 per gallon is $10. We’re stuck with high gas prices so $10 is not a very high extra charge for a scenic and adventuresome road trip.
My only concern is that a location decision would be made soon. For any geocachers that are also campers it affects our camping reservation plans. We have to make a reservation soon for any September weekends. I wouldn’t want to make a reservation for say 9/20 at High Cliff and then find out the picnic is also there the weekend before. My personal choice would be either Kohler Andrae or Point Beach. They are both located near many permanent caches and would make sense geographically for attendance. Pike Lake and Lapham Peak are both very busy in September and even though I can get to either one in 20 minutes I would rather travel a little. We have decided that we’re going to move around this summer to do our geocaching despite the high gas prices.
Congratulations ZigZagaroos or whatever your team name ended up being. It’ll be easy to spot the four of you next week. All we have to do is look for drooly chocolate smiles and fresh outbreaks of zits.

has anybody tried taking garlic pills. when i was in Boy Scouts i used to take garlic pills everyday you have to make sure they are 100% garlic. i would take in the beginning 3 tablets a day 2 in the morning and 1 at night after about 1 week or so i would go down to 2 a day 1 in the morning and 1 at night before bed. besides smelling like an Italian restaurant (only when you sweet real bad) the ticks never landed on me at all everybody else would be full of them. now a days i take 2 a day and spray myself and gear with a spray that i cant remember off hand right now but i don’t get any ticks they don’t even land on me. they will fall on my clothes but will not go onto my skin. i even placed on on my skin and it looked like it was on fire and jumped off. anybody else have any home remedies for ticks. let me know i am always interested into new cures for this kinda stuff.
We take them when we go night caching to keep vampire bats away!
Just an update on the batteries we use. They are Kenco rechargeable nickel hydride. We just returned from the WGA Campout where we probably had them on for at least 16 hours including an hour illuminated during night caching. I charged them before we left and the still had 1/3 charge when the weekend was over.

How about New Berlin..
I live there and there is some cool “Welcome To New Berlin” signs around which would work well for pictures.
I haven’t even had time to get there and I’m only 12 miles away. That’s my second option. If I don’t get any takers on Berlin I’ll pass it to you if you want it.

It looks like I better hide my beer at the campout this coming weekend. And we thought racoons might be a problem.

Yes, Jesse, will be caching with me. She went with last Sunday, and we walked around the lake, and she was tired, but happy. So was her owner.

So does that mean neither of you can wag your tail after a full day of geocaching?
There’s also a Farm & Fleet if any of the guys need a shopping fix!
There is a local grocery chain store, I believe it’s called Dick’s. They have stores in smaller communities, it’s comparable to Piggly Wiggly. Sunshine’s brother lives in Ridgeway and they do all of their shopping there. His wife is a gourmet cook so it must have adequate supplies.
We plan on hunting all of the permanent caches in the park so I’ll talk to you Friday night about this one. I like all the help I can get on multis.
We definately would come if it were at High Cliff. We camped there last October and had bad weather and didn’t get to do much caching. We were planning on a return trip this Fall and would probably spend the weekend if it was there.

I’m looking forward to meeting Zuma at the campout, but I was worried that I wouldn’t know which one he is. Now I know that all I have to do is look for someone with tips of his fingers worn down from keyboarding.
Hi Bill,
LOL. You are right, I have been active in this forum. My feeling is that all members deserve to be heard, and have their questions answered on this topic, since it is a significant change from past practice.

I thought maybe you were using the forum as an alternate to temporary logs to run your posting numbers up.
I think if you look at Zuma’s numbers (caches found and placed) you will see he really doesn’t have to run his numbers up. 😉
I hope everyone knows that I only intended tis a s joke. When all of this controversy started I traded a few E-mails with Ralph. At that time I was upset with the way things were going since I have logged quite a few temps. I haven’t totally changed sides, but I’m really looking forward to meeting new people at the campout and exghanging ideas. I really hope that by the end of May we can all be working together to make the WGA something that we can be proud to say we belong to and quiet the comments both within the state and from outside. I do agree that most of the temporary logging takes place in SE Wisconsin, but I’m also starting to see signs of this starting to change.
