There’s a straight line in West Bend! If you look at it cross-eyed it looks like a dog.
Mr. GT that is exactly what happened. My “guy” charged me $40 to change the oil, air filter, and to clean the carb. I am not complaining.
That’s really reasonable and he did the right repairs too so he knows what he’s doing. The dealer we bought our new mower from charges $90/hour for repairs.
A shutoff valve in the fuel line will prevent this from happening if it persists.

BBG the needle didn’t close on the seat in the carburetor and the vacuum in the cylinder kept sucking gas in. It probably also washed down the cylinder wall and contaminated the oil. If the oil is thin and smells like gas that probably happened. Also if the cylinder is full of oil the starter cord will be hard or impossible to pull. This is a common problem with Briggs engines. That’s why you find very few commercial mowers with Briggs engines. We just bought an Ariens 21″ mower with a Kawasaki engine which also has an oil pump and filter. A little more costly at $800.00. I have a 48″ mower with a Kawasaki that is 25 years old and still runs well.
