I have found at least a dozen caches that were never published. They were all near existing hides and that probably blocked them from getting published. Probably the same amount of letter boxes by chance too. A handful of archived hides found when looking for places to hide a cache. What LB7 said is true. If you do this long enough you are drawn to natural hiding spots. We check holes in trees and hollow logs when ever we hike. Who knows, you may find a real treasure someday.

Just post them on one of the other listing sites instead of GC.com
Post them on Opencaching. Garmin would be thrilled to see the number of open caches go from 2 to 347.
Congratulations! Dick could start traveling around the country with Steve and you’ll hit 20K in no time.
That’s a lot of roads, congratulations!
Obviously the HardinFam has not noticed that there are other caches available in Wisconsin to look for.

Apples. We like to pack a picnic lunch if the weather is going to be nice. Just our normal sandwiches and stuff.
Unhealthy is when we choose where to cache based on which Culvers has a good FOTD.
Picnics or Culver’s for us too. Sometime we’ll probably bump into each other at one or the other.
I was really hoping for something a little more racy when I opened this topic!
Congrats Rod – great choice for a milestone. It’s on our list of must do caches.

I get several of them every week. I send an e-mail asking them to delete one. It seems to be a phone logging problem from the feedback that I get from the finders. I have had this happening for more than a year.
I can understand that if the cachers who logged my caches used a cell phone, but I didn’t log the caches I found with a cell phone…I’ve been accused of still using a tin can and string…all mine are via my computer.
Strange…very very strange 😯I can see where that tin can thing comes from.

Final count for new hides for the picnic is 18 to go with the 11 existing caches. There will be an interesting combination of traditionals, multis and a field puzzle. Some are unique containers and there are 2 large caches. NO MICROS except for stages of the multis. The caches will be released on 9/18 so will have time to check them out and choose the ones you want to try.
Thanks to the following caching teams for helping Sunshine and me with the hiding.

The Jahn FamilyThe annual WGA Picnic is a fun social event, but for those of you who also need to satisfy your geocaching fix here is the rundown of what to expect at Pike Lake. There are currently 11 caches in the park including the oldest avtive cache in Wisconsin. Five area cachers have gotten together and hidden an additional 17 caches in the park that will be released a few days before the picnic. They vary in terrain and difficulty and will offer something for everyone. There will be family friendly hides including 2 large containers. Multis and puzzles for those who want a little more of a challenge. Unless one of the hiders broke the guidelines that I gave them there will be NO MICROS. Several of the caches are within short walking distance of the event and others will take you on hikes on the great trails in the park.

Recently I was at a big box store checking out PVC. For some stage caches I’m going to create a container with these materials. 8″ segment of pipe, end cap, and a threaded cap on the other end. The materials are cheaper than everything but the cheapest ammo cans. At the same time I was looking at bulk chain. Lightweight is very cheap when you buy it in 10′-20 foot prepackaged lengths.
Using this chain and doing a simple fasten to a non-movable fixture with a bolt and washers would protect from all but the most serious thief. In locations that would be acceptable, this might be the route to go. Additionally, the PVC containers may be less desirable than ammo cans.
Every container that I have found made from PVC pipe either could not be easily opened or it leaked. They also look like pipe bombs. Not saying you shouldn’t try it, just offering what I have seen.
I still like “old school”. Vicki and I walked the trails at Pike Lake yesterday looking for hiding spots for 5 caches for the WGA Picnic. All 5 ended up being hid by rocks or wood. One large, two regular and two small. All are fairly easy, but you will have to walk a mile and a half to get them all.
I’m too old to create the “next big thing” so I’ll just be waiting for it to happen.
Congrats Pat and Mark. read your log and now have that cache on out “do some day” list.
