I have experienced a few unexpected multis. It’s not the worst thing but I did kind of feel like I should have known from the beginning what I was getting into. I have also done several multis where the WPs were not 528 feet apart. One that I did was practically underneath the previous waypoint!

wWypoints within a multi do not have to be 528′ apart, only 528′ from any waypoint of another cache.

Not to make this a chirp bash thread hijack, being a committed Garmin user myself, but I too was not impressed with it at the CB. I was with a fellow Garmin user and we had our 550s searching for the chirp and only one unit could successfully download the info, while the other would fail at about 20% completion. The nice thing was is that the Oregons can send and receive info to one another wirelessly, so after my buddy got the chirp info, he sent it to my unit and that worked perfectly.

If you have more than one unit searching for the chirp they will interfere with each other. Notes were posted about this and it is on the cache page. Once there are more chirp caches around and there will be I think more cachers will be aware of this.

I have a similar question. If a cache coordinates sends you to a sign and the sign sends you to another set of coordinates shouldn’t It be considered a multi?

    http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCQ8JA

You can do it either way, but if there is no container it is better if it is a puzzle so the cacher is aware of it ahead of time in case they don’t cache paperless.

HCH – That’s an interesting question that I’m going to have to defer to the reviewers on.

I know of and have found caches where this is the case. One instance in Appleton is a multi where WP2 is inside another cache. WP1 says – Go to cache X. When you find cache X there’s coords for the next (WP3) of the original cache. I also know of a bunch of puzzles where you need to figure out which cache contains the coordinates for the puzzle final. There may be different rules for multi’s vs. puzzle and perhaps it’s only allowed if you own both caches in question.

My puzzles. I won’t get into interpreting the rules, but I checked with the reviewers before starting this series and got the OK. So I guess my answer is that if you don’t know for sure contact the reviewers. I still do when I need a clarification and have almost 300 hides.

    FOOD AT THE VENUE!!!

I understand that the chamber wants us to visit the area restaurants that are part of the chamber, but there needs to be something of nutritional value available at the park.

MWGB has food vendors similar to what you would find at a county fair come directly to the venue, when we were done caching, if we knew there was nothing to eat at the park, we would have stopped and grabbed something before we headed back.

Mainly on Saturday during the day would be the best time for the food at the park.

You have to remember that this event is not put on by geocachers, it is put on by the chamber and it’s member merchants. It is their money that foots the bill to put it on. The continuation of the event is dependant on the results that they see from the influx of visitors so I wouldn’t count on seeing any food at the event.

I don’t have a better idea about the stamping sheet but I will give credit for the idea to lagrac as he mentioned getting a gallon sized ziploc bag to put the card into to protect it from the weather. Granted, it can still get wet from sticking your wet hands in the bag but it has to be better than stamping in the pouring rain. maybe Glad can be a sponsor.

That’s what we did and cached right through the rain. Our card stayed nice and dry. GLAD someone mentioned that.

Letter Boxers have no guidelines for hiding their boxes nor do they seek permission. We have found several within a few feet of geocaches. I hid a cache on the IAT in winter and when a little of the snow melted geocachers found 2 letterboxes within a few feet of my cache. That’s how close together they place them. I’m in Waukesha County and we have to apply for permits for caches placed in County Parks. Letterboxers just go and place them. In one park where I have 10 hides a letterboxer sent me an e-mail and wanted to know where all of my caches were so she could keep her letterboxes at least 100′ from my caches. I’m not sure whatever transpired after I sent a copy of her e-mail to the county parks.

Remember when evaluating this poll that it probably only involves half of the people who attended the event and then only those who visit the forums so now we’re down to probably less than 10% of the attendees.

I like LB7’s idea of combining the stamp sheet with the booklet. I know that from personal experience stamping something is the big draw for our 3 grankids. I’m not even sure if they would still be interested in coming without it and that would scratch one team and 5 people. I think most kids love the stamping.

Tired after 10 months of planning and spending the last 3 days in West Bend. Thanks to everyone who attended the Ca$h Ba$h and especially to those who visited our caches at Pike Lake. Sunshine and I are enjoying reading all of the logs and apologize for the mud at Pike Lake – South. Think of it as the sequel to last year’s Frog Pond and what an accomplishement conquering the mud was for you. We hope you all had a great time and look forward to seeing you on the trails and at events during the next year. See you all at the Ba$h again next year.
