I have a magnetic key bon on my vehicles. When I traded in my last truck that was 5 yrs old it was still where I put it. It is not in the usual easy to get to locations which is why I also carry an extra pair of sweats, shorts, t shirt & sweatshirt inside. 😆
I currently own 33 caches of which 25 have swag. I do site checks once a month or more if I read a log or get an email that a cache could use some TLC. The sizes range from small to about 3/4’s ammo can size.
When I started them I FILLED them with an assortment of things for young kids, school kids, & adults. There was some generic stuff for the in between cachers. Yes I do regularly make the trip to the Dollar store which I look for some of the nicer things such as the etched crystal pieces, or an area related item (a med baggie with bandaides & individual packets of alcohol wipes & neosporin packets) for a cache I hid in a tight spot that had briars. Ive included live crystals, small travel games (for in between cache trips) coupons for discounted prices at the nearest DQ & Rita’s. There have been small pocket books on tree’s, plants, birds, local wildlife & shells.
I carry some things with me when I cache for restocking other caches as I go. I seldon take anything. I will grab a military patch or pin. I’ll take a TB to move or a coin to move but I leave something. A couple of match box cars or snap & glow sticks. Cards, action figure etc. For me its the hunt & find.
There are a few people in my area that do some really awesome swag. 1 guy does these intense puzzel caches. They require homework or a trip to the library & for the best cacher takes days or even weeks to complete. He offered a FTF 1st addition to a particular book. That was pretty intense.I have found some pretty cheezy stuff left in my caches but it goes with the game, but most of the stuff is ok. MW
My sister & brother-in-law bought & preparred an old barge to be sunk in Michigan a few yrs ago to help create a man made reef for diving. Im sure they will be really upset with this. They live outside Chicago & do a tremendous amount of diving, teaching etc out on the lake. They have worked hard to help towards the goal of cleaning up the lake.
You should circulate this article however you can to as many people as possible. thanks for sharing. Mother WolfThose were awesome photos. What a great close incounter with nature. Mother Wolf

I can only speak about Maryland. Like anywhere else it is what you want to make of it. Md. does have the advantage in someways since our terrain goes from sea level to mts. (Although anyone who has been out west knows these arent real mts here 😆 but they will do). We have the typical magnetic key holder to absolutely extreme caches that require some rope climbing experience, or boating availabilty & knowledge of tides. With DC being so close we also have many many virtual caches there (from before they quite using that term). This has brought alot of people out to begin with by also allowing them to see things or places they may not have gone to otherwise.
Within the Maryland GC society we also have a military section. Open to any military person, family member, friend or just someone who supports our service members. This allows for even more adventure since many of us have been around the world have seen how other countries cache, so we have gotten ides from that.
Each part of the country has, Im sure, its own little “thing” but the bottom line is the same. We use caching to promote new friends, share ideas, introduce new things to people, and to have fun. It connects us to “friends” all over the world & reinforces that there are re good folks out there than bad & that the good WILL overcome. 😀
If you are ever in the area here or coming this way please feel free to drop a note & there will be all kinds of input to where to cache, where to stay, what to do etc. Our door is always open & we love to meet our fellow cachers. 🙂 🙂 thanks for asking about here.
Im looking forward to coming back to the Chicago area, probably next summer, & will definately head up to the Dells area for a day or so to see how things have changed. I will also do some caching along the way so who knows maybe we’ll cross on the paths. If not heres wishing you good caching. Peace Mother WolfI always ck the hints 🙂 Then again being an ‘A’ type there is an entire process I do. When I started caching almost a yr ago I went thru pages & pages of caches within about 100 miles of home. The ones that caught my attention I read. If they looked like ones I would like to do I condensed & printed. Also cking map quest with aireal veiw. I would then draw my own little map with hints etc (to save paper). I then put them in a binder. After a time I divided the area into 4 grids. These stay in my truck except when Im updating so if Im out & I have a few mins I can pull the one I need for that grid & pick 1.
If Im planning on a day out (the night before)I run down the cache page to make sure all are up & running, refresh my memory, which isnt what it once was 😆 read the latest logs for any surprise then head out. I know, sounds pretty stupid but Im not a wizard when it comes to equipment & I like to enjoy the time out & this way I mostly just need to get to the general area then I can play the head game. I do have alot of the waypoints in my eTrex so I do use them sometime but often when I get to the area I write down the coords on a little note sheet & just use my satelite & nav keys.
I dont take much with me. My phone, ALWAYS, in an emergency since I almost always cache alone. My stick for obvious reasons, my buck knife, H2O & a pen.
I dont get out nearly as often as I would like but when I do go it is usually an event for me so I make it fun for myself. So……I use the hint………& I always log. Ta Mother Wolf
We have had the same problem here in Md with coins disappearing. I know it happens in other places to. We have come up with an alternate idea. Let me say that there are people that are against it but they dont have to participate. We all like to find a coin in a cache but it can get real frustrating, as well as expensive, if you put coins out & they walk so…………heres what we have done.
We have created a thread where you can post your coins with their numbers for others to discover. The only catch is that you have to share your coins too. It doesnt matter if you only have a couple just as long as you share.
It isnt quite the same as finding a coin but at least you dont lose them.if anyone is interested in this option & want to get more info you can come to MGS & ask any of our moderators the best way to go about setting it up. Good luck Mother Wolf
Thanks everyone. Hi Justin. Its great to see our group wanders all over.
Like I said in my hi intro I spent much of my teen yrs around the Dells & Devill Lake. Boy do I wish I knew then about caching. I was up in the bluffs every day. Dont know that I could handle the rock climb anymore but would love to come back just to visit.
I will be dropping by now & again. Til then Peace Mother Wolf
