I just carried mine in my carry on through Japan and China without incident. There is no way I would check it!
Ms. WISearcher05/07/2008 at 1:15 am in reply to: Discussion of not logging temps, starting with this event #1888670A HUGE thank you to the whole BOD and all of their work they have done and will continue to do. This obviously was a tough decision and wasn’t entered into lightly. I know the challenges that comes with the job-so I for one appreciate the time you all have put into this.
Also, I am a huge supporter of this decision. This decision could encourage more socialization and if it really isn’t about the numbers, people will continue to attend the events!
Thanks BOD for this decision and all you do!
Ms. WISearcher
I know that we have one that is temp. disab. in Madison, and it is not because the cache isn’t maintained, but rather there is construction downtown which could make it unsafe to complete…so we temp disab until the construction is done…which could be a while. There are many reasons that a temp is dis.
good question though!
Am I the only one that is tired of all of the policies out there. I “get it”, but it just seems that with all of the policies that pretty soon there is going to be a need for a policy to deal with all of the policies.
In all seriousness, a policy is not necessarily a bad thing. It was the only way we could open up a city (Madison), but it seems to be the way more and more areas are going. It really will be hard to keep track of all of the diffreent requirements and policies out there.
Good luck approvers…
The NFDL Police Cheif just contacted me. It seems that after investigating they found out that I was the City of Madison liaison. He had some questions regarding the policy…I smell a geocaching policy in the area in the near future due to this…just a heads up.
Ms. WISearcherRock on! That works great. I will now send them to the wga site to get the wording….
and Tie, next time I will be sure to add the sugar!
Thanks-
RVThanks for everything. You have added much to the WGA and I am sure that you will continue to be a role model. Maybe now you will have time to hit the trails and enjoy the outdoors more rather than being glued to the computer to approve caches!
Thanks for all you have done!
rvI got 9. Phew
We have a yellow that you could use just let us know if you need it!
Ms. WISearcherI completely support having the templess event! I think that this idea came over me at the last two WGA events…when the idea that “it is not about the numbers” became realized. We have decided that we would only log the event rather than the temps. Since doing this we have fully enjoyed the events more. We were able to stop and smell the roses and actually catch up with geocaching friends. As a past BOD member as well as chair person in the planning of the event I can say that not having temps at the events would eliminate A LOT of work in the planning and actually make it easier to manage!
I know that there may be less interest in attending for those people that are more numbers driven, but since the WGA and BOD have not supportted or stressed the numbers buffering that takes place from finding and logging temps it would be a show that in fact the WGA are not all about the numbers.
As far as having fewer temps at the event I can say from chairing the MacKenzie Picnic that I tried that. Most people found all of the temps and had time for socialization…HOWEVER….the area was terribly torn apart from so many people visiting a place in a short period of time.
I can share that although I may be in the minority that I would appreciate temp free events. Not that I care what others may think, but Wisconsin has been bashed in the GC forums over and over for allowing the logging of temps (and I know we are not the only ones). This would just make this a non topic.
ok..I am done-
Ms. WISearcherA huge thank you for the efforts with this! It is good to see that some of the disabled caches are finally getting cleaned up or removed. Great job Tie!
Congrats! Now that certainly had to be “the best day of your life!”
Welcome to your newest addition!I would find it hard to believe that they would give a ticket for an activity that they have approved and have a policy in place. I think that it was just a way for the city to get rid of the unwanted activities that were taking place.
Awesome! Cheese-Whiz…lol Leave it to you! You will make a great addition to the two incredible reviewers that we currently have!
