Whooo hoooo!!! Way to go Senor Wizbit!!! We were glad to have been a part of those. Looking forward to getting together with you while you work on 1200…maybe Yuri B will join us too!
I am going to work on the cache page today…and have it sent in for approval…I have been awaiting a few details from the City of Madison…especially regarding times…so I will be posting it today and it will be ready to go as soon as one of our great approvers gets to it.
Thanks to all of those that will be in attendance!Congrats Bob and Pat!!! We were watching when you hit 899 and knew that it was going to be very soon! Way to go and look forward to hunting some more with you! Way to go comander(Bob) and boss(Pat…like you would be anything other than the boss…)…hehehe
I have confirmed the date (10/16)and time (9-noon) with the Madison Parks Department and will be making it an official geocaching event as soon as I can get over to Owen Park to get the coords for the cache page. Thanks to all that have volunteered so far…and I am sure that once the cache page gets up that more people will be interested. It will be open to only the first 35 people that sign up though due to the amount of supplied the city has. Keep your eyes out for the event posting…hopfully it will get sent in for approval in a few days!
Thanks for giving back!!!

Can you tell me which ones are in off limits areas?
Hopefully my post was not taken as hostile…but please understand that we have been making very long and hard efforts to keep geocaching from being banned in certain areas as well as getting it allowed in some areas that it is currently banned in…so anything that could hinder our work gets my dander up…
I will attach a mini list of areas that are off-limits currently…and in my opinion should be considered off-limits to anyone(Yes, that includes Navicache…I personally feel the same about them).
Off limits areas:
*State Natural Areas (SNA’s)- Caching not allowed.*City of Madison CONSERVATION PARKS – Off limits. No caching allowed.
*City of Madison Parks – Cachers need to get permission. Admin will require name of permitter be included on cache page.***Currently off limits
*Dane County Parks – Special use permit required, $10.00 fee required. Admin will require name of permitter on cache page.
*Waushara County Parks – Caching not allowed.
*NPS lands – Caching Not allowed. This includes the St Croix National Scenic Riverway.
*FWS lands – Federal Wildlife Refuges are off limits.
*Other Off limits areas:Bridges, Military installations, public buildings, commercial caches, Dams.
There are several caches that are located in these areas, and have been grandfathered in…and the agencies understand this.
I would reccommend that your site has someone that serves as an “approver” or have some other way that makes sure that they are in an appropriate place.
When I went on your site, for example, the first one I saw was listed is on NPS lands…the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway is off limits…shouldn’t be there…
Seriously, have fun and enjoy the game…I really mean that…but please, before jumping in head first get the regulations that we need to follow and apply them…I could care less about virtuals or multicaches or distance away from caches…that is for you to decide, but when it comes to federally, state, and locally mandated off-limits areas, please become educated in this regard…I cannot speak for MN, TN, TX or any of the other states that are currently involved, but I know that there are a lot of off-limits areas in WI…we all need to follow these mandates.
best of luck-
Ms. WISearcherOh my goodness, I wish last year that at least one of those 48 thesis papers I read…had to edit…send back 50 million times for revisions, etc…had a geocaching theme…
Maybe, just maybe I might have stayed teaching at the graduate level…grading labs and projects are much easier and much more enjoyable for me…lol
nice article…very reader friendly…way to know your audience!
While I applaud someone trying to go out and begin something new…quite a lot of effort was put into starting this…I do share some concerns…
I went to the site to check out this…we are always interested in trying new things…at face value it sounds interesting…
I am concerned that several of the areas that are listed as currently having a “cache” are in areas that the state as well as local areas have indicated that they don’t want caches there. regardless of weather or not they are associated with GC or not…they are hidden in areas which for one reason or another shouldn’t be there. This will make our dealings with land managers more difficult. If they find people that are out searching for things in their area that they have already said no to…any progress that we have made with local and state agencies could be for nothing! A lot of work has been put into dealing with these agencies…and quite honestly, the thought of all of our hard work being compromised is rather upsetting.
Enjoy your game…just don’t compromise mine!
