09/28/2020 at 1:27 am in reply to: Proposed Change for 2021: Provide Proof for Cache Container Replacement #2067242Cache replacements are no longer awarded points in the LCG due to complaints/issues of this matter. So to the matter of if it is to be officially a part of the game it already isnāt.
Also on the flip side since no longer part of the game. As admins we can only see/make informed decisions based on what is shared in logs. If a cache is replaced but not mentioned in a log how can we know/regulate?
Now yes we could add more or elaborate rules more to āIf claiming a find due to replacing a cache container, it must be done with CO permission(and or add in including proof of CO confirmationā again goes back to knowing what is shared, which those already doing this might not be sharing that they replaced the cache. In addition people already find the rules a little confusing so I hesitate adding more unless it eases clarification.
All in all goes back to honor system which sadly various individuals break to varying degrees with all things in life. As for cache replacement and managing it within the LCG and its rules as much as I can agree with your frustrations, doesnāt belong.
Replacement points are no longer a part of the game which then removes the need in my eyes. If cachers have issues over concerns of replacements I personally think it then becomes of issue that is for Geocaching HQ to address and resolve if it is something one feels is in violation of their policies and not of WGA and LCG. Which then we can follow up following GCHQās decision but we have no way of knowing if/when a log is removed so it makes that hard.

And I have and update and a new working fix š
So I have updated the banner HTML that can be copied to use on your geocaching.com cache page. You can view the updated code here https://wi-geocaching.com/info-center/files/cache-page-banners/
To read more details and their release notes feel free to check out this link: https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/358532-release-notes-website-upload-image-to-cache-trackable-description-hosted-images-going-forward-september-15-2020/
In summary, for all new cache listings and including an image you can either upload it using the WYSIWYG editor or can link an image like normal from an approved listing of sites (which they will periodically evaluate). All current existing cache pages still allow you to use any external sites. I have moved the images to the WGA’s Google Drive account and have allowed them to be linked.
You can see all of the approved sites to link images from here: https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=97&pgid=956

Hereās a new twist to the āimage hostingā problems that have been giving people problems. Iām trying to create a new cache before the big festival and got an error message saving the cache description. You canāt link to images hosted on outside websites now. That means I canāt link to the banner image hosted on this website to help promote the organization. I stripped out the images and to get the cache published, but is there an easy work around for this? I used to have a dummy cache that I used to upload images to in the past, but GC forced that to go away years ago.
Thats actually really really frustrating that they implemented that. (As yes I had to test it out to verify) So yes it looks like with new caches you can’t link to external images. I did try to edit an existing cache and save it that has the banner and it at least allowed me to save it.
So as it looks like now, within the description editor you can upload an image to include it in the description right there. So that is nice but I don’t like how they limited to only that way š For adding a background image you have to complete the entire form process then go back and edit the cache and are then allowed to upload an image for the background.
As for an easy way to add the WGA banner I’ll have to play around. Feel free to download the image and then when creating the cache page, upload the image with their editor and add the text.

I would agree that this change has been well received and see keeping it for the long haul.
Only downside, but even was a problem with 500 is neglect to ones that are difficult to get to, higher difficulty, etc. But like I said that was an existing problem as well.

I pretty much 2nd all of Russ’s comments above.
Also having increasing the count to 1000 I think provides more then enough opportunities for all to try and make a few finds and not run out of options inĀ a 2 month period.

I know not perfect and not facebook instantaneous, but it is notifications. There are a couple ways to get email notifications of both new threads and new posts.
If you go back to the LCG Leadership Forum Thread list, you can subscribe there to new threads that are created. IE go hereĀ https://wi-geocaching.com/forums/forum/leadership-forums/lonely-cache-game-committee/ and click subscribe in the top breadcrumb bar.

Can also subscribe to posts in a particular thread, IE this one, if you scroll back to the top and click the “subscribe” link in the upper right of the first forum post.

Lastly can always click the checkbox “Notify me of follow-up replies via email” when you type a response or create a thread to receive email notifications.

Is anyone else surprised that the GeoTour event in Kentucky next month is still a āgo?ā It looks like a fun one, but there are already 250 āwill attends.ā I realize that the theory is that transmission risks are lower in outdoor spaces, but that many people from all over gathered together in one? No thanks. Our risk factor visuals for our county mention large gatheringsā¦.doesnāt matter where, but lots of people gathered in one area.
A little bit. Not sure what their local restrictions might be but if it was here in Dane County it wouldn’t be happening as we are limited to 25 for outdoor gatherings.

Sorry guys, we have been dealing and fighting with issues with the website the past day or so. It has been going down and like you shared being slower than normal. We have been working to try and figure out what is going on. One of those issues we were looking in is if the site was under attack and enabled a feature to verify you are human. I know that wasn’t fun or ideal and is/was not a long term “feature” of the site. We are still working on solving the issue right now so appreciate the patience, whether in the site page load š or with us š

I am probably overlooking an obvious thing, but why does the WGA store only have the coin for sale and not any other merchandise? With no spring campout, it would seem people might be eager to purchase things not having had the opportunity in May. Personally I havenāt got the funds for anything, so I am asking out of curiosity, not because I was looking for anything in particular.
Short answer is Logistics. But if you or someone else is wanting something else you know we have, let us know and we will do our best to try and make it happen.
Long answer is logistics š Recently with new coins we try to have them ready to be available at the Spring Campout then at West Bend. Sadly Covid cancelled the campout and West Bend and we have new coins people are wanting and we wanted to make them available. Sadly the coins are located in a different location in the state then the rest of our merchandise. Also, adding a variety of merchandise to the site and figuring out a variety of shipping costs for all the different items and to make that all happen wasn’t going to be realistic to make these available anytime soon so we decided to move forward with just the new coin available for now. Who knows pending how the rest of the year goes we may work to have more merch options available another time(this is unofficial).
