While not part of the ā€œgrab stocking,ā€ the free trackable was larger than I expected it to be. It’s twice the size of last year’s holiday tag.

Thats what I thought to in that it was larger than I was expecting.

I activated mine already so that they could be discovered at my GIFF event.

But I also purchased this grab bag as well and is looking like it will be delivered come Friday since I was going to purchase other things as well.

Tip out there that I have figured out. Each year at this time of the year I always get my premium membership. I always buy the gift certificate premium membership (for myself šŸ™‚ who says I can’t gift myself) which automatically gets me the free trackable they always have. In the past I have bought the combos with geocoins or additional items for additional value. Spend $5 more get the free shipping. But I like to get the free trackable with my membership…… granted usually spend more money and get a second trackable haha

Mine showed up today as well. My Loot was

-Rot13 Decoder Geocoin- Antique SilverĀ ($10)
-DĆa de Muertos Travel Tag ($5)
-Custom Trackable GeoDog Brick- German Shepherd ($5)
-2018 GIFF Nano Gnome Charm ($6)
                -Generic Travel Bug ($5)
-Hidden Creatures Travel Tag- Mermaid ($5)

So $20 for $36 of trackables. All items are still full price and available on their website so I was surprised with that. All in all I guess no complaints.

Time for a little Halloween fun. I’ll start it out and then you add a couple lines to make a spooky/funny/goofy Halloween story. It was a dark and stormy night. The children were upstairs in their beds and there was a nice warming fire set in the fireplace. I was sitting there reading my book, enjoying a mug of hot chocolate when all of a sudden…

…the sound of breaking glass shattered my concentration. I felt a whoosh of wind coming from the kitchen. I scrambled to my feet and went to investigate. The picture window was shattered. Rain was splattering in. And there, illuminated by the lightning, …

was the cute and fluffy puppy smiling back up at me!!! As the lightning continued to strike I the shattered glass was colored red? The kids called down asking what the noise was. And as I replied……..

I know I ordered mine earlier today. Supposedly having 6 trackables? Figured I’d buy into that especially guessing that it may include some of the clearance ones I’ve been on the fence with getting anyways. See what I get and then place another order if they are still available.

I know they have in the past but it looks like this year they said they were not pursuing to be a MEGA so not sure if they are this year. On the cache page I didn’t see any mentions of one. But this is the link from years past (and still active) but at least a contact information thatĀ might work to see about getting whatever leftovers may still be left.Ā https://squareup.com/store/hooplamn

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the LCG seems to be self policing in the fact that a basic member cannot log the cache on GC.com. I would think that it would be irrelevant as to whether they could see the cache location, its no different than me taking a basic member out caching, finding a premium cache, and them not being able to log it. We aren’t promoting the premium membership, we are simply indirectly encouraging it.

You are both correct and wrong šŸ™‚ I agree with the thought that I could take a basic member with me and it not matter. What matters is due to how we are sourcing the information through the API, which has an agreement that we have signed to. Now those rules and regulations could have changed throughout time as HQ has gotten premium heavy enforcement. Or we may of technically never been compliant who knows.

But since we are (currently) pulling cache information (GC Code, GC Name, coords, cache type, diff, terr) through the API there are different rules that we have to follow according the API license agreement otherwise they could technically pull/remove our access to the API.

Example 1: First off we technically aren’t suppose to be pulling information and storing for other users to be able to reference. Each user technically should be making the call through the API. In this instance with the LCG technically even non GC account holders can view the information. When technically we can’t even have say Admin account source the LCG information for then MTCLMBR account to consume. MTCLMBR should pull information seperatly when they load the page.

Example 2: because of the above the risk of premium caches could be in the list which according to the API Agreement Basic member can’t even see but can. Basic members are only allowed to see traditional and event caches when sourced through the API so technically shouldn’t even see if they are mystery or multi caches either.

Example 3: Restrictions placed by HQ, basic members can only pulled detailed cache information for 3 caches per day. Limits Cachly has to follow or other API apps. Because of that limit they state that detailed information can’t be gathered through any other form from gc.com or through API and you can’t even provide the link to any of the caches whether premium or not as another form for users to gather detailed information.

So that even yes basic members could use a premium member for the same information on our website, its due to an agreement on how we are sourcing and going to share that information to users. I know its extreme for our use case.

But I guess my plan is to get everything back to working on how it has and used to and then worry about fixing some of those details as improvements come. Some things we could come up with a workaround and still keep us compliant. Others might have to look at do we display a short simple message that they have to be premium to view, risk being not compliant :/ (which wouldn’t be an honest option, but i know our use is different than most planned uses of the API, ie mobile app), or remove feature.

Yes all that information is gathered through the API when you link your account.

There is this list of links which most have been already covered but a couple other countries. http://www.geocachingcentral.com/Associations.html

This might be only slightly out of date?

Correct or just not updated. As that site is all user feed and managed by a couple people. I think some from Dawn’s list isn’t there. But its a list haha
