way to go CJ, I liked your unique way of hitting each 100 milestone, very cool.
congrats!!
GR Don’t short change yourself, you have 3430 since the beginning of the game, not 3008.5…………..hehehe
wtg HP2!!
any way to see how many of those were in WI?
glue one of those recordable christmas cards to the hinge, that way when opened whatever you recorded will play
not sure if it would work in the winter
Thankx everyone for your words of congrats, ive been having the time of my life running around looking for these things, and not getting sick of it at all, and still no desire to get a GPS, it would almost feel like cheating if I did.
But I am getting an itch to place some here, and as geocaching rules state, i must use a GPS to get my starting cords, ill just have to borrow a friend/dad sometime.
And yes I use technology, just no GPS, I actually read lots of logs searching for underlying hints, look at google maps and use the street view if possible. Lots of research into each cache before I go and get it, but its all paperless, just pics with my camera of the map screen. Mostly its me analyzing my surroundings and comparing to the overhead view of the map, surprisingly you can see individual trees and 4wheeler trails from satellite.
Anybody have any recommendations or challenges for good caches in the fox valley or surrounding area? Or is there any compass required caches around?
thankx again,
BrianI logged 3 the last being my #400 cache, and #100 puzzle, on my 5th month aniv of caching

Had a great time backpackin in the park. Went 15 miles over 4 days, I got the one virtual cache at lake of the clouds before we headed out.
I even hiked some water back for the “we come from the water” Laughing waters cache in Menasha
Leaves were beautiful.

I just solved and found the whole series in 3 days! Really nice series, well put together, and no real “puzzle” about it, just facts and history.
btw, 3 big indians is an internet only solve, there is no info at the statue.
I recommend more people do this series, it was a good one.
crazy run guys, I sputtered out early and soon after all 3 of you took off, way to go, all of you
way to go both on 2000 and a great month on the LCG!

Well I ran into a good 10 threads or so on groundspeak, and most people say that they only soak up a very small amount of water, so they are not very useful. And on a hot sunny day they can release the water back into the cache.
I guess the only time they would be useful is to clean up a musky cache, but you would have to return like the next day to take them back out and not leave the moisture in.
I guess ill just toss them, or keep them for maintaining my own caches (if the day comes that I get my own)
thankx for all your responses anyways.
Ok, I fully understand the concept of keep it out and it doesn’t become a problem. But I find caches with wet logs, would it be acceptable to put one in the cache if I don’t have the time to sit with the log and dry it out? This way the next cacher could toss the used silica after he signed the nice dry log.
Some of the ones I have also have GAC granulated activated carbon, mixed in with the silica for freshness, I would think one of those in a skunky ammo box would “freshen up the place”….No?
there has to be a poll or thread on groundspeak that has this covered. searching….
1 the silica I have is beads, in a small plastic container with holes in it, and they are melted shut, so I don’t see kids getting into the stuff
2 I wouldnt’ use them in non-water proof containers, that would be useless
3 they would have to be tossed or replaced once they get fully saturated
4 I would probably put them in the bag with the log, not that the container isn’t water proof, but ive opened dry containers and found moist logs, from signing in the rain, or just moisture in the air.
I did read online of people using them in caches, I just wanted to hear from some “old timers” to see if this topic has been covered already, and hear your views on the topic.
thankx
BrianMuggle is for the fact that I hunt with no GPS so I am “powerless” or if you see me out and about, I look as I am a true muggle, no wandering around with an electronic device.
B is short for Brianon other forums ive signed up ive always gone as Bri Guy, but I liked Muggle B so went with it.
