the maps are in your stats on geocaching.com, press stats, then click the tab next to milestones that says “maps”
automatically updated!!
I check out Harbor Freight from time to time.
the other day I got some compasses for 75 cents each!!
Hardinfam, I am sorry you have been singled out in this thread, that was NOT my original intent. Although I did use your caches as examples, it was the concept I was bringing up not you in particular.
I have a hard time “blending in” no family walk for me, no kids and a wife that is not interested in sticking her hand in dark holes. So being a 32 year old long haired guy, no matter where I go everybody is always looking at me weird, and some places I just shouldn’t be.
(besides residential caches, I also don’t like kids play ground hides, every time I swear somebody is watching me thinking “what is that pedophile putting in a camera on the playground equipment”)
When I found it a year ago it wasn’t hidden very well nor camo’d so im sure its missing. Because it wasn’t that hard to find.
Very well put Cheeto!!
I started this thread without even thinking of what us geocachers think about the hides. I started it because of what all the outsiders are going to think of these hides.
I was handcuffed and patted down one day (first time in my life) while out geocaching in the middle of a public park, at noon, on a tuesday. My suspicious behavior (hanging around a pine tree) was enough to raise attention for the police to get involved. I was more than 200′ from any house and someone felt uneasy with me being there. I can’t imagine how they would feel if I got within 30′
Again this thread was never started with fingers pointed at any one (reviewers/placers) but just to raise awareness that the public does watch us play our game, and we should respect them. Just because all the groundspeak rules apply to the cache, we should still be aware of the attention the cache will draw.
Do we have to find them, No as I stated right away I will not. But I know they won’t stop the # people. And we all know people in it for the numbers have one thing on their mind. And its not protecting the integrity of the game piece or respecting the public. And once the cache is placed, there is nothing to stop these type of cachers from doing their thing. Which in turn gives geocaching a bad name.
What about a geocaching TOWN of the month?
Pick a town with lots of nice caches and even post an event for the occasion. This way it would draw people to that town to check it out or maybe draw them to a new place in Wisconsin that even regular geocaching wouldn’t have brought them since there are so many its hard to decide where to go.
id like that better than a cacher of the month.
Wow nice milestone, I bet you couldn’t have set that one up if you tried.
Just curious, is this your furthest FTF from home?
Oh, come on CJ, youve cracked harder puzzles than this.
First a pocket query of boat caches within 50 miles of Appleton, then create a spreadsheet and then……
or an adrenaline shot? Maybe thats their trick to how they do it!!
Jim you should post the event now. That way it goes lonely by Feb and then we know HP2 will be there.
btw, I don’t think I was quite 60′ above, but 30’+
While I did use actual geocache hides, I didn’t mean for this thread to be directed at any individual. Hence why I never mentioned the actual cacher or link to the cache. Ive seen these pop up in other towns, its not just 1 person.
I want this hobby to be fun for all, so if Im uncomfortable with a situation I move on. Just pick the places you really want to visit.
If you can put a residental address on the cache its not a geocaching adventure. IMO (with the exception of the actual CO’s cache on their land, like signal in Mountain)
At least he knows the cache is there, and is encouraging the public to be there, these poor people have all these strangers hanging out in front of their house and have no clue why they are there.
I really feel bad for them, and the best I can do is just ignore those caches, one less person they have to worry about.
But CJ, I can’t reach those caches from my car seat. And that would mean I would have to go for a nature walk just to get to it. Whats the point in that???
Im sure some of these are interesting……for the geocacher, but probably down right scary for the home owner, they don’t know whats going on.
The only caches I would do like this would have to mention on the cache page that “permission has been granted by the property owner to place the cache this close to their house.”
I was hoping that they did place one in their front yard, that would be pretty rude to place them in all your neighbors yards, but “not want the traffic at my place” I sure wish they mentioned that in the cache page.
actually the first geocache I ever found was on private property, but it was the CO’s place, and obviously he knew it was there. (awesome cache if you ever get the chance to go there, it got me hooked)
49er cache in Pella IA
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=9bc707c7-5d9f-4f20-9457-747e305561aaI know the rule “protect the integrity of the game piece”
but what about “protect the integrity of the game” You know hides like these are giving the sport a bad name.
Ya, I checked out some of these and the red dot was IN their front yard!!!! Not even close to a beacon.
nice, you should link the cache in which you got your milestone, so we can read your log.
I remember my 600th cache like it was a couple months ago….wait it was a couple months ago
cache on!!
