I do believe that smart phones allowing to log a cache “from the field” probably do lead to non-expressive logs for the lazy type. I’ve also seen cacher’s use this well also where they log a quick found and then come back and edit it later so it’s really just about the person and what they want to log.

I use this only on FTF. My phone allows me to put a timestamp, and usually I throw a FTF TFTC on it and then go back and edit it when I get home. Maybe I should stop this so other people think they still have a chance 🙂

My logs are very predictable. Same format. Most of my runs are of multiple and I say how many I got, usually who I am with and where we went, maybe something about the weather. Then I close with TFTC,and my signature shamless self promotion. I cut and paste that into all my logs for that run. BUT if there was something that I remember from that certain cache between the ramble and the TFTC I put somethign extra in it. This allows me even to have more then TFTC even at the plain old P&G. 90% of the time I am able to remember something about the hide the location or what not and I add something. There are some ( and most of my hides are like this) plain old easy hides. I do not expect more then a TFTC on most of my hides so I dont add anything to my logs.

I get my bags from Hobby Lobby. I carry ten bags at all times with logs that say replacement log already written as well as NR93 ( what I sign my logs as) That way when I come accross a cache that needs it I can just drop and go. I also carry a a bag full of bags to replace if only bags need it.

Great Idea. I should start leaving them as swag. The bags were on sale at Hobby Lobby for 1$ for a hundred of them so I spent 10 bucks. I have lots of bags 🙂

Since I am not a prolific hider, and all my hides are easy 1/1’s I really dont care or know if anyone spoofed a log. However, Peach you have great hides and the few puzzles I have done were pretty cool. So if you have evidence or know for a concrete fact that it was an armchair log. Delete it. Its not fair to those who have found that cache ( do not want to start the puzzle solved debate all over again so PLEASE do not comment on that ). So I would delete it.

I bet having that Camera is handy. The only reason I didnt go with the 550 is I have a cell phone with a good camera that has geo-tagging. If I didnt have this, I would have spent the extra 100 bucks for the 550. Sometime I wish I would have the 550 becouse I always have the GPS with me in the woods, but sometimes I leave the cell phone in the car. Eitherway great GPS

Are there any other models you guys might recommend? I found a car I really want (’03 MINI Cooper) but it’s stick and the gf needs automatic. This is the back-up vehicle for both of us after all 😕

I love the Mazda3 and they seem to be a good car. STAY AWAY FROM COLORADO they have had hoardes or problems and they do not hold value. The Accord looks like the best “deal” and it is a very roomy car

Cant drive stick?? A weekend will take car of that! Minis ROCK!!!!!

I’ve read the section o Whereigo’s and have went to the site and still can’t figure out how to load a whereigo on to the oregon. (MORON I AM YA)

I have only done this once, but I think once you download the whereigo from the whereigo website ( not the GPX file ) You just drag and drop it into the whereigo folder on the Unit.

I have had my Oregon 450 for 2 months now and LOVE IT. would not recomend anything else for the series cacher ( except the 550 with the camera). Between the sites mentioned above and just playing with it I am familer with it so any other questions I am sure i can help or someone else can 🙂

    in reply to: OREGON 450 question # 2 #1930243

The other way would be to use GSAK and just send to GPS. The GSAK version I use, which is one off the newest does not have the 450 listed but it has 400/500 which is what I use without a hitch. But cheeto is correct the easiest is just drag and drop the unzipped .gpx file into into the GPX folder. I also load the wpts file to get parking coordintes and trail heads. The 450 holds 2000 waypoints so that is plenty for most use cases

I know it is amazing the stories of the people he meets. I love the Mailboxes!!! I too spent a good chunk of my afternoon going through it day by day from the start. Wish I would have know about it a week ago when he was in the Madison area, would have driven down there to give him 20 bucks.
