Hey Glokr
Nice meeting you at the CITO event!
Two recommendations ( kinda)
http://reviews.cnet.com/gps/magellan-explorist-gc/4505-3490_7-34064119.html
New Magellan that I don’t think is out yet, but specifically designed for Geo-caching. Boatloads of features and has room for 10,000 geocaches and direct integration fro GC.com
The bad is I have personally had bad luck with Magellan but reviews on this unit are high and they seem to have fixed all my issues. Magellan pretty much gave up on there old units to focus on this one and the Triton’s fell by the wayside 200 bucks!
Second is my GPS

LOVE IT Garmin Oregon 450 Does everything you need to geocache plus garmins CS is top notch! ( they already replaced mine once because of a broken screen)
bad 300-400 bucks. But You seem to really like geocaching and a mistake people make is buy a cheap one, realize that they want more features and a year down the road end up upgrading to a more expensive unit. Forget that problem, save a few more weeks and buy a good one 🙂
Hope this helps….er well you probably already bought the etrex and I wasted my time 🙂 lol
Hey Todd
First Nice meeting you in escanaba!
I use a Linksys WTR54G, and I demand A lot from it! I have 4 things plugged right into it ( 2 computers 2 xbox 360s) and at least 3 things have wireless access to it ( phone, laptop, zune) And it is 2 years old. Everything is networked together in a home network with Windows 7. The short of it is I have no issues with Youtube, or streaming video or Audio wirelessly, and It is only a G connection.
If your Laptop has N wireless card then I would recommend the Linksys N routers. I think almost all new routers are N because that is the new standard.
One thing you may want to check first before you spend any money is your settings on your current router. You have to find out what model it is, and the also find the IP of it. If you type the IP into a browser window you should be able access it ( if you set a username/password you will need to enter that ) The Default Ip is 192.168.1.1 and the default username/password is Admin/Admin. Play around in there and see if there are any settings that limit wireless bandwidth.
Again G should be enough to stream standard def. videos and audio ( hi-def will be an issue)
Hope this helps!!
I use an Oregon 450 as my main device, but I use an HTC Hero running Android 1.5. I use C:geo and it rocks! App is being constantly developed and improvements are made almost daily. Without getting geeky, the Iphone and Android OS are the best for Smart Phones, if you need a physical keyboard then possibly blackberry, but I would strongly recommend Android, and Android phones are on almost all carriers. The Droid, the Droid Incredible, The HTC Hero, Nexus One Samsung Moment are all options, and more are coming out everyday

…and yes, I have discovered and reported suspicious activity in a cemetery.
That’s an understatement Jay. Cemetery caches is a very important part of our (Wisconsin) geocaching community. I would hate to see something drastic happen.
I know but they were both easy to get virtual, and if i didn’t e-mail him he would have just deleted the logs like normal… O well your right Not going to cry about it or anything just putting the word out leave the virtual owners alone…if you dont bother them they wont do anything stupid or drastic
05/03/2010 at 6:57 pm in reply to: RJ McKenzie sittin’ and thinkin’ about a virtual milestone #1928368Congrats RJ….now lets get me there 🙂
Yea, I claim responsibility for these 🙁 When I was logging them I noticed he hadn’t logged in since 2008. So I did offer to adopt them, i had no idea geocaching.com wouldn’t allow it and I didn’t know he would take suck drastic measure. This sucks. I love Virts! A quick glance at some of the other virts we did on our run shows they are still owned by active users so that’s a plus! Maybe someday Groundspeak will bring them back.
Not to hijack this thread but does any one use waymarking.com on a consistent basis?? I have tried but I have no interest in discovering every McDonald’s in the country, so I havnt givin it much of a chance.
Rj_Mckenzie and I did 62 on a porly planned route that had lots of mishaps ( forgot to sync gps had to go back to appleton, fell in a swamp, had to go buy new shoes at wal-mart) Could have easily been a 75 cache day
marc_54140 wrote:A couple of points for a big day:6. Take the time to create a Bookmark of the caches on your hit list. Then
obtain a current PQ a day or two before your trip. Will help in knowing recent finds, DNFs, disablements, etc. And here you can include even more caches than you expect to hit.Current?? Like the Current PQ you had in Escanaba that landed us 200 feet away from the cache 🙂
If geocaches were taken away from cemeteries, some of these would never get visitors. There are so many old cemeteries that have not been used in 50 or even 100 years, and no one even knows who is resting there. I have always loved history and this is almost a living history. Who was this person, how did they die? What did they do? What stories could they tell us? I have been in over 200 cemeteries geocaching, and with the exception of one I have never even thought they my presence was un-wanted. Its not the hider ( 99% of the time) its the seeker that just has to practice common sense when hunting and show respect for those who rest here. The back roads I have traveled and the townships I would never have visited if it weren’t for the Waushara Challenge or the SCC. I will always love hunting WSQ or any other cemetery cache!
Just seen this today! Thanks for the Congrats!
Got the milestone back in December….. and read the congrats in April!! Thanks Guy!!! Here is to 1000 more!
Thanks for making that list… I am working for the 400 points and needed to see what I was missing….man do I have alot of photos that need sorting 🙂 I agree this series is really neat!
They are going to cover the unit! I do have to return my unit first, they are going to see if they can fix it or they are going to send a new one. I already dropped the old off at UPS so I should get it back or the new one late this week or early next week. They also through in a new carabeaner that is guaranteed not to slip. Very happy with the result. Just going to suck not having it for a week.
My oregon has taking a few beatings in the few weeks I owned, It just happen to fall right, landed on the screen at the right angle and smashed the LCD. The csx series is ment to be more rugged, and take more hits. If its working for you great! I just would miss my paperless on one device ( sure I have an Android phone with caching apps) but its nice to be able to have it all on one.
