Trekkin’ decided to get a smartphone. I want no part of it. But…it’s an android platform and he’s interested in knowing which geocaching app others like for it. Thanks for your input.
I use c:geo app for my Samsung S8 along with a add on app called GPS Status which is a radar like screen (instead of using a compass to navigate). I still pull out my Garmin 64st on those rare occasions (<5%) when I am in pine trees, ravines, or need to precisely nail down which side of a bridge to look for a D5.
You can store caches offline ahead if time too for where there is no phone service.
I will admit to taking some pretty crazy routes for the sake of geocaching, like the time I was in West Bend and picked up caches in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, and Jefferson Counties on my way home.
Everything is on the way home if your loop is large enough…
Everything is on the way if you make the loop large enough…
Just checked on the ice for the local Milwaukee area rivers last night for a friend who wants to do some T4.5 caches today, and am saddened to see how quickly the 6″+ ice from Monday has melted to open water in places. I am sure glad that I got out on Monday and Tuesday to walk on water to grab my last remaining local river caches, but was hoping to get some more this next week. At least the ground is bare here (until Monday) for easy pickings…
Works for me.
Time to don the blaze orange cap and vests as trophy bucks and turkey pics are filling up my FB feeds as the archery deer and turkey hunting seasons began last week.
To be sung to the tune of “12 Days of Christmas”….. And a bison in
a pine tree…
While searching for a cache at a petting zoo last Saturday during the Oconomowoc Area Historical Tour (OAHT) geocaching event, I had a peacock chasing after me. It seemed more curious or hungry than threatening; my teammates got a good laugh from it.
Some days we just have to deal with crap…
I was in Rhinelander while visiting from Milwaukee last fall. I did try a couple of cool Woodcarverdan gadget caches while up there, but mostly chasing 2001 oldies and counties.
#9 on 800. I get a bonus week watching my son this week while the ex recovers from getting her gall bladder removed. I had planned a geo trip this week to Superior to snag the final 4 state parks which I didn’t get last year, knock off my final 7 WI counties, some waterfalls, and T&B’s 4th Cheesy corner. Amazing how quickly life can spontaneously change one’s plans…
I noticed the 1st leaves sprouting on a honeysuckle bush yesterday – there goes the easy pickings!
For FTF’s I log immediately at the gz from my phone as a courtesy to others who may be considering making a special effort/trip to claim a FTF.
I log my finds that same night as I like to type pithy notes from memory which are specific to each cache, such as “be careful descending this tree as it will streak your butt with green stains”. I write something unique for each cache out of respect for the CO’s effort in placing it, and have avoided cut and paste method for the most part (except for a couple of power trail runs in late November to hit a year end goal).
Can anyone tell me if there is a challenge cache for finding all of the WGA state park caches?
The closest one that I’ve found/SL is GC55EFR Z Challenge: 40 State Parks – to find any cache in 40 different WI state parks, by Zuma! in the Lake Wissota SP.
With the Cubbies finally winning the World Series again, I got to thinking about things that I’d thought that I’d never live to see again:
1. Packers winning the Super Bowl (pre 90’s and Favre)
2. Badgers going to the Rose Bowl (pre 90’s and pre-Barry Alverez)
3. A black president
4. Cubbies winning World Series
5. Vikings actually *WINNING* a Super Bowl??
What are yours???
