FTP for Sunday Funday. My fun today will consist of grading assignments, writing lesson plans, and updating my weekly document outlining my instruction for the week – which is supposed to be posted on the district website for parents to reference, but they have not figured out how to do that yet.
When the school year started, we were on a shortened 5-block day. Then they switched it to three blocks, 1, 3, 5. 1st meets every day for 12 weeks. 3 & 5 meet for 6 weeks and then 2 & 4 start. The end of the first 6 weeks was supposed to be this Wednesday. I couldn’t really fit all the required content in, but cut and trimmed and forced stuff to make it work. Then, about a week ago, they decided to give us a few more days, and this Friday was going to be the end. That worked out perfectly. NOW we have until next Tuesday. I don’t know how to go back in time and teach stuff I cut in these extra two days.
I got an email from a parent wondering what kind of 1:1 help I was giving their son. After 5 weeks in class, they didn’t know I was teaching virtually. I also question their mindset if they think I would have been doing the 1:1 sit down time with kids this year like I would have done in the past. That’s what they were expecting.
I have two boys in my 1st block. Every day one gets up and sits right next to his friend. Then they pass a Chromebook back and forth and type on it. No sanitation. They told my proctor teacher that they can be as close as they want with masks on. Then they also say, later in the same class, that masks don’t do anything so they shouldn’t need to wear them.

FTP for Friday! As I have related to many… the COVID-19 virus doesn’t care about your political affiliation. It is a health issue, not a political issue! Treat it as such.
You haven’t met my sister-in-law 🙂

Working 12 hour days is getting to be too much, and I just saw my schedule and classes for next trimester. Guessing social distancing isn’t a concern, each class is double the size of what I have now.

Today we’re discussing with our classes what to do if we switch to virtual school. Kids are still expected to be “in class” at our normal times and we take attendance. 8:15 math when they are at home could be very interesting.

Teachers have a virtual meeting and technology training.
Are you still in-person? AF Middle School shut down for two weeks, but the rest of the schools are still open for business. I’m virtual teaching and spending 12+ hours each day doing so. Two classes with kids in the morning and then switch to working with the virtual school: grading, troubleshooting, encouraging kids to keep working and contacting parents for the rest of the time. Throw in the Census job I have and it’s three full-time jobs for the pay of 1.5. We had 50 kids out for quarantine last week at the high school, but as fully staffed as we’ve been with just one teacher and the principal out. To my incomplete knowledge, nobody in our building has tested positive, but other buildings have each had cases.
I did another run to LaCrosse two days ago to get a new CPAP machine. Got there early, opened up the app and there was a cache across the street, and one two blocks away. The one across the street was a T5 that involved tree climbing. I’m not against that, but I couldn’t tell from the ground which maple trunk I would need to go up, although I did spot an apple up there. The other one was a D4 on a tank. I thought I had found it faster than T&B did, but what I found was still viable grease instead of a log. THen it was time to go to my appointment. Didn’t post a DNF at either.
It’s been a long time since I’ve spent time inside with another non-family member. It was quite scary. She made some off-hand remarks about people taking this too seriously after I had already indicated the high risk of death for my kids if they contracted COVID. I really don’t think she understood what she was saying.

Happy birthday Jim!

My wife is making the chili and the hot dogs are ready for the game. Just posted my “attended” logs for the WGA events. I wonder if anybody saw the black Volt drive through? Wishing we still lived in the old house, it would’ve been so much closer than where we are now, but I did see a few people find a few of our caches in connection to the events. It’s almost like when we would see an uptick in finds when people from all over the world would tour the West Coast in conjunction with the big events Groundspeak has out there.

12/12 is my birthday and this is page 1212. My birthday present to myself is the :ftp: for this page!

I will be the Black Volt driving past and waving at the shindig. Can’t stop to talk to people. Wife’s very VERY precise demands for my “attendance”.

Here’s a new twist to the “image hosting” problems that have been giving people problems. I’m trying to create a new cache before the big festival and got an error message saving the cache description. You can’t link to images hosted on outside websites now. That means I can’t link to the banner image hosted on this website to help promote the organization.
I stripped out the images and to get the cache published, but is there an easy work around for this? I used to have a dummy cache that I used to upload images to in the past, but GC forced that to go away years ago.

Getting the :ftp: is another surprise

Yeah, new attributes were a surprise when I saw them.

Two days down for my teaching “in person” kids virtually. Could be much worse. Prepping the same class and same material for two classes that are different lengths each day, plus one being on a 6-week duration and the other 12-weeks has been a challenge. Plus they keep playing with the activities during the 12-week class because that period is also being used for homeroom & other things the school needs kids to do every week. Some days I will have 70 minutes of their time (minus time for them to eat breakfast, which starts 10 minutes after the class starts).
The virtual kids don’t start next week, how that is being handled is still in the works. Maybe we’ll know more after the meeting we’re having in 30 minutes. Every meeting up to now hasn’t really answered anything, and things that we were told would have been done a week or more ago haven’t been done.
Maybe do some caching today. Or cut the grass. Probably cut the grass.

Good luck teachers!
I start my virtual teaching tomorrow with a teacher proctoring my classes. Still not exactly sure how (or how well) this will work. I’m also “teaching” the kids doing math through our virtual school. Still don’t know what that is going to mean either. They start a week late and have to cram a semester’s worth of work into a trimester (18 weeks into 11 because of the late start).
I was invited to a virtual classroom meeting with kids in a class and when the screen popped up there were a bunch of kids, with masks, hovering around the camera. At least they had masks on.
The last dream I had before I woke up was being in the hallways at school and watching all the kids walk around between classes without masks and acting as if everything was normal. Then, they put them on as they walked into the classrooms.
Waiting on a plumber to come and degunk a pipe again and talk to him about a more permanent solution. The pipe is almost horizontal, so I know what they need to do. I think the geese chewed on an outdoor faucet enough that it’s leaking to the point the pump runs often enough we notice it. They go there for water instead of drinking out of the two pools set up for them 30′ away.
Maybe I’ll have time to work on a field puzzle listing today.

I always make lists of caches in the caching app (or webpage) and make them available offline. When I’m walking out of the house, one of the last things I do is have the list reload the caches. No need to have cell service then. I like the idea of airplane mode, battery life is always an issue, especially as the weather gets colder.
