If you’re looking at simply being able to punch in coordinates and have them go find them, I use an app (on iPhone) called Free GPS for that. The price right and it’s very simple to use.

I requested along with a picture of my son finding one of Scott543’s appropriately themed caches in the New Richmond area from when were completely new to caching.

I remember seeing my first Where’s George bill back when W was president. I thought it was some sort of political protest thing – like he was on vacation too much, or something like that.

I hope we’ve been charging Todd the out-of-state membership fees you charged me while I was in Oregon!

I love atlatls. Way back when, playing D&D (not AD&D) I saw it listed as a weapon and have been fascinated ever since. Never used one though.

I spent 30 minutes at a local store trying to find someone that would allow me to place a LPC. “The guy” finally came back and said that it was my lucky day because they would say yes, but normally would not allow due to concerns over liability.

Not sure if things have changed out in Oregon since I left, but it really is the wild west out there wrt placing caches. One of the reviewers is quite a stickler about certain things, but once you tell him “it’s a pill bottle under a rock” – he’s happy. There are a wide variety of “pill bottles under a rock” out there because hiders simply don’t want to answer all his unnecessarily picky questions about placement and containers that are legal, but know that he’s fine with “pill bottle under a rock”.

He also would hate our LCG because he routinely archives caches that haven’t been found for some time, even if they haven’t had DNF’s posted. Contrarily, caches can rack up multiple DNFs in a row, have no active CO and remain in play. Argh.

To go back to what your question was – if the cache was built specifically for that location, or has a puzzle based around the location, maybe. I have a puzzle designed and in place but haven’t been able to contact the person I now know I need to contact in order to activate the cache.

Funny thing about the campout. I had ambitions of attending. My wife has been eyeing up that part of the state to visit since we’ve never been anywhere close to there other than one trip to LaX for shopping. Then, we heard about several places to visit, etc. on a WPTV show, including Gokey’s Burgers. Thought I had a great way to get her to that area and stop in long enough to meet some people. To make this work two things had to happen: 1) we had to go to Marinette to get some items we left with our parents; 2) she had to buy in enough that being around strangers (and face it, we’re all strange) would be offset by visiting places she wanted to see to make it worth the trip for her.

Well, #1 fell through. She wanted me to talk to my dad to make sure he would be around tomorrow. He’s a golfer. He’s never around on Saturdays. She nixed the trip north before we even contacted my dad. Next weekend, instead of being at the campout we’ll be all the way across the state.

    I’ll wave.

Whatever that test was for, they needed to have someone who hasn’t seen a dentist in eight years or more

I know a place in Oregon where they could find plenty of qualifying people…

I have a lot of blood glucose test strip containers that my cousin gave me. Don’t plan on hiding any caches, so if anyone wants them, I got them. Noonan, how is you son doing since the move?

Not much has changed, although we’ve been to Madison a few times looking for answers. He’s tired of going to doctors and getting poked and prodded repeatedly for the same issues. This is our 3rd time through the same tests. First at Marshfield before we moved to Oregon, then in Oregon, and now in Madison. All of these are looking for a diagnosis(es) for what is wrong with him. He’s 16 and legally starts to have a say in what care he does and does not receive. He’s tired of invasive procedures. He’s decided that he’s always going to be the way he is and has accepted it, although he’s also deeply depressed.

Unfortunately, his education is suffering because he can’t attend school regularly. He’s working with homebound and online classes but ‘working’ would be stretching it. Finding days when he’s overall healthy enough to produce work isn’t easy. Throw in the fact that he’s ‘self-educated’ himself to the point that most of the classes he’s in are repetition of content he taught himself a long time ago – and he needs to be convinced that he should do the work simply to prove to someone else that he knows what he knows. It’s not easy.

That’s the tip of the iceberg, but since you asked…  and no, I haven’t been caching much recently – see above 🙂

Before we moved back to WI, I had the local clinic supplying me with EMPTY pill containers. I had hundreds, hauled them all the way across country with us. It came in handy because I replaced a missing cache in Idaho – my only find there.

I kept some of them in empty cat litter buckets. When we moved in, the people we bought the house from were still moving out, so we helped each other. A few days later, I was organizing my caching materials. I was missing most of my buckets. The people moving out “helped” us by taking the missing buckets to the dump for us, since they were full of empty bottles.

I think I still have over 100 empty containers of various sizes ready to go. Just need time to start placing them along the trails in Adams Co.

I’d love to write something 250 words or longer, however almost all the caches I’ve found in the past month have been the “pill bottle stuck into a stop sign post” variety with very little effort put into the CO to camo or describe.

Found my first tick while caching in 5 years last weekend. Not amused at all.

What were the main pests you encountered while living and caching in Oregon?

Main pests? The heat and dust. And mosquitoes. Big nasty mosquitoes. I was at a cache at 6000′ standing in a foot of snow and was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes. We lived in the high desert, but because of irrigation, there were always swarms of mosquitoes.

I never came across a single snake or other harmful critter that I know lives out there. Plenty of deer, rabbits (jackrabbits), and birds that would greatly expand my lifetime bird list if I could identify what they were. No ticks. No buck thorn. No wild thorny berry plants on the leeward side of the Cascades where we lived. On the ocean side, the berries were so thick you couldn’t walk off the road to begin to search for pill bottles in sign posts sometimes.

Well, it’s good to see 919 is gone! It was starting to remind me of one of Jar’s puzzles – just staring at me day after day with no hope of going away…

Happy belated birthday Rod! Wondering if I’m going to need protection from rain during bus duty today. Two weeks ago we were getting snowed on.

Is this the page that just won’t die? Wondering what page lasted the longest number of days before it was used up. This one has to be getting close.
