Checking in again. Missed Earthcache Day along with many days of no caching due to lack of time. Busy busy busy work schedule.

Girls are #4 in the state right now, but things may change after this Saturday. We’re playing a team that beat us earlier in the year. A loss would drop us to 3rd in our conference (from first) but still keep us in the top 10 in the state.

Today was supposed to be a day of house cleaning since there was no game to watch. Fell asleep on the couch instead, nap lasted about the length of a game.

Still got some stuff done afterwards. Snow showers off and on today, nothing that stuck around by us, and not what we’d call snow back in WI, but I think I see some white on top of the mountain.

Weather forecast calls for rain the next two days as well as two days during the second week of the month. That would be more days of rain than the rest of the year combined.

Never got that rain, although some parts of the 950 sq miles that our kids come from did. We had a thick fog/mist in our valley instead.

Talked to my dad. He had a good time at the Packers game today. TV never panned out far enough on the kicks to see him, again.

Got plenty of those negative attributes out here. It’s a long way to go to get gas everywhere here, especially when your geomobile only runs on premium.

Note to self: do whatever it takes to avoid having a home sporting event on the first day of school. 14 hour days make for longer days to follow. Would’ve been better if the girls would’ve won their match, but we were playing a team two divisions above us…

Well, a little good excitement tonight. I was out with my wife admiring the sunset and taking pictures… like the one here:

and she was complaining about the telephone poles and wires. I said that I like to go down to the corner of the garden, next to the telephone pole and take pictures. It was then that I noticed 20 mule deer standing just outside the garden. I talked too loud and the ran/walked up the hill away from us. I checked, and the picture is too blurry to see them, but they are in this picture.

We haven’t seen more than four deer at any one time until now, so maybe they are starting to herd up. Cranes and geese are starting to flock and fly now too. We even have around 15 pronghorns not too far from our mailboxes (about 1 mile down the road) that we haven’t seen until this week.

School starts next Tuesday, so maybe all of these are signs that summer is really over?

On another positive note, the smoke that has been plaguing us the past few days has cleared out.

Fires are back. Nothing too close to here or very big in the area, but the smoke is think enough we can’t see the mountain that’s in all my pictures. This morning I could see just fine, after school – nothing. Guess I need to start checking air quality levels for sports in the morning.

You know something can’t be worthwhile when you are told the name of the training you are going to, for the second time in three years, and you don’t remember what it is about.

I thought today’s training was about job performance evaluations. Nope, it was about methods for teaching kids. Totally not appropriate for my advanced math kids and a true waste of time. I do love the fact that they can put a dollar store plastic pencil container in front of us, put a few crayons, highlighters and markers, slap a sticker on it with their program’s name on it and then have the gall to charge $15 if we want to buy it. They have an app for $3 to help you pick a kid at random in one of your classes. We spent 30 minutes learning how to separate our kids into groups of four.

At least the rest of the week is dedicated to classroom time with a minimum of in-house meetings.
