I remember reading (here?) a while ago about the app being streamlined into one, free, app with “new features” being added. I have long since lost my cord to connect my GPS to my computer, and being Mac-based means no GSAK and other fun tools, so the app has been how I’ve found 99% of my finds. Never really had a problem with it, actually like it better than my GPS because of the ability to post field notes as I make finds and the maps are better than using my GPS.

Checking in. Finally walked our upper 20 acres the other day. Great views, but I forgot to take a camera/phone with me, so no new pictures from the trek, I’m sure there will be many more. One thing that really hit me was a dead pine that was partially burned. It looks like a huge corkscrew, can’t wait to get a picture on here. My wife says no caches on the property other than the Bug hotel at the end of the driveway/wagon. I have ideas but nothing solid yet for that…
Huge flocks of cranes are a couple miles away at the lake (Swan Lake) at the base of the mountain. Nothing available to see them from here, so I can’t see what they are, but they sure are loud!
I have to share this log from one of my hides on the Trail. The only thing that upsets me about it is how the two finders (friends of mine) moved the hide to a less messy location. I had the T rating higher for a reason, now it isn’t applicable to the hide…not that many people are beating a path to my hides yet. Here’s the log:
Luckily we parked over by this cache and did our walking out beforehand. We still had plans for another 3 hours of caching. Looked pretty mucky down there , looked at logs and went in from the east side. So far so good. Spotted cache. Still ok. Little muddy but okay. Got to gz and tossed cache to Miller0126 to sign logs. Sinking but still okay. Before the cache was in my hands things turned for the worst. I was sinking pretty fast. Was probably 10 inches on both legs. Struggled to get free. First leg out but my shoe didn’t come with it. Second leg out. I attempted to get shoe out but the harder I pulled on the shoe the further I sunk back into the abyss. Almost slipped and then called it. Hobbled out with one shoe lost to the cause. We moved cache so this won’t happen to any other cacher. Miller0126 grabbed new cords and will send them to co. Will definately remember this one for awhile.
I did maintenance on a cache today. The land had turned to goo, so every step was a twisting/turning experience. With each step, I never knew if my foot would turn left, right, both or neither – or slide like stepping on a greasy floor. It reminded me of walking to Lambeau Field before all the homes were built. Sliding through clay fields after thousands of other people had walked the same area wasn’t fun. This wasn’t fun either.
There are people from all over the area looking at my 40 caches that still need FTF. I’m wondering who will be brave enough to trek through the slop to get to the nice Trail. Who knows, they may still be available when HP2 gets back this way!

We got three chicks and a baby turkey today. I didn’t know we were going to be buying them when I left for work today, but it’s a good change of pace for the family and to get us into the swing of country living.
Another FTF. A couple of new caches placed. Got the green light for a trip to place more caches along the Trail tomorrow morning. Just hope the weather holds off now…

Only missing a page is highly unusual for me. I’ve been so busy I miss 4 to 5 at at time.
Had a string of 3 FTFs going back to Leap Day. Five finds today! Placed one inspired by the WRC series around Hudson (meaning it is under a bridge).
Reviewers keep disabling old, lonely caches around here. I need to get out and find some, but have to time right now. Spring Break is two weeks away, but we have to take the boy to Portland for a doctor appointment. That will take about half of our vacation. I’ve already been instructed that caching is off the menu for that trip too.

We’re down to almost nothing white on the ground. Living on the shady side of the hill with plenty of trees slows down the melt!
Reinjured my back tonight shifting bins from the garage to the basement. I think we’re the only house in the area with a basement. Don’t know how people live without one!
My Leap Day cache was a bunch of things to celebrate: FTF (after being published for two days); first CA FTF; and traditional find #1100. It would’ve been overall #1200 but I had a calendar date to fill earlier in the week and a little time on my hands while in town.
There is a challenge not too far from here that is a “10 mile challenge” – have smilies for all caches within 10 miles of your home location. I really messed that one up with this move. I went from only 1 left to find to roughly 100 thanks to all the ones on the western (far) side of Klamath Falls I have never even had a chance to get to. At least the two that are on an island (but not T5) are just outside that range.
Still no big dog, no time to check yet either. We’re going to need a barn cat or two too to get rid of the pack rats we smell. No desire to replicate the chewed wires from two summers ago.

Haven’t had this in a while

Someone out here has been working on that series too. Not sure how far they ever got with it, but I haven’t had time to really look at it.
This was 600 yards from our house.
We’ve been looking at getting a bigger dog (my avatar is our biggest dog, at 20 pounds. The other one is 8 on a heavy day.). My daughter and I visited with this guy after I picked her up from school. He’s 2 years old and 200 pounds, but he isn’t done filling out yet.
Oh, she’s having a good time at her new charter school. She even has her first boyfriend. Freshmen…

Oh yeah – my travel bug that was lost, stuck and then finally moved from the Twin Cities area is really on the move now. It made it to Quark’s on the ET Highway and now it is in South Korea!

It went from a dozen or so miles to over 10000 really fast! The best sig is no sig.
I should probably make a jigsaw puzzle for that picture.

We’ve been moving into the new house – just .2 miles away from GC5WF9Z although we will eventually have one at the end of our driveway. You can see where the hide is going to be in the picture below.
This is our view every day at sunrise. The little shrubs in the dead grass are 40′ tall juniper trees.

Yes, we still have some snow, but we’re on the shaded side of our valley. Everywhere else except on the mountains that get swathed by clouds is clear of snow. The forecast is for low 60’s through next week, maybe ours will be gone then.

Hello everybody. Almost all moved in.

I’m back at page 568 trying to see what I missed being sick and now swamped with basketball games that wear me out so much all I do is sleep. I give up. Did I miss anything?

Aaaaargh. Seems the defense always had that one play where they forgot how to tackle. Why did they need to save it for overtime?
Another week of no caches found.

One month and one week and we should be homeowners again.

Well, after talking to a local cacher/insurance agent on the phone yesterday I learned a few things.
1) Almost nobody caches out here in the winter. Funny thing – much less snow than we had in WI and not nearly as cold, but I don’t have the inclination to test the logging roads to look for caches either. I’ve found all the caches in town, so all that is left are the ones on the hiking trails, but I don’t want to take the time to drive the 40 minutes to hike and search through the snow. I just don’t trust the caches to be there as much as I did back in WI.
2) It is hard to find someone to insure houses that are “close” to woods due to all the wildfires in the past few years. Our current agent (and caching friend) wants to insure us, but her company won’t take the risk because the woods are “too close” to the house.
3) Water rights are stupid. The house has rights to water 6 acres of land from March through September. This acreage includes what we would call the front yard, a garden, pasture for goats/cow and horse pasture. We wouldn’t use the last two. If we don’t water, we lose the rights to what we don’t use permanently – and this loss would transfer with the property if we ever sold it and would greatly decrease the value of the land. I philosophically have disagreements about how the whole thing is determined and handled, but my view is 180 different than everyone else around here. When I’ve explained why, they look at me like they’ve never heard that point of view before. First claim to the water (historically speaking) has priority over other claims.
4) I may have a slump of over a month after all the house stuff and weather stuff sorts itself out.
