Deadline for 2013 for being a docent at the Rock Island Lighthouse this year has passed, but…

Maybe 2014?
Jomusky reminded me of the fact that you can volunteer to be a docent at the Rock Island Lighthouse for a week at a time. Long waiting list, but it gives you the opportunity to live and work in a lighthouse on the Great Lakes.

We are going to Door County and staying at Penisula State Park, but we are going to Washington Island and going into some of the towns in Door County area.
Bring a cooler-
Renards Cheese, 2189 Cty. Rd. DK, Sturgeon Bay (Just off HWY 57)
Wonderful cheese!Koepsel’s Farmers Market, 9669 Wisconsin 57, Baileys Harbor
Smoked Fish, wine, fruit, juice, lots of good stuff!Door County Bakery, 10048 Wisconsin 57, Sister Bay
Corisca Loaf! Out of this world!Kelso is right about the taffy, good stuff. Some of my favorites caches:
Door Bluff County Park has five fun caches. Beware, some climbing involved.
Ellison Bluff State Natural Area. The Door County Challenge (GCGE6B)
Potawatomi State Park is the one you are thinking of with the tower. (GC1V50D)
Horseshoe Bay favorite (GC2EH2A)
And this is only the Bay side! Lots of great spots and locations everywhere!
Congratulations! I’m truly enjoying watching (reading) your journey.
Thanks!
Mrs. Northwoods and I have already been checking out the park caches and hope to get the two night caches there. Maybe others might want to join.

amazing how many geocachers live in the middle of a street
I originally put in our address and it placed you just outside our bay window. Figured Mrs. Northwoods prefers to watch birds out the window rather than geocachers so I moved it down to the closest intersection.
Like that will really help though… Several visiting cachers have asked in town where that Island geocacher lives and the the locals have helped them find me… Can’t hide in a small community.
Thanks Team Deejay,
I was aware of the feature yet never knew what a wide spread problem it was. This will definitely be an area I highlight in future geocaching classes I teach.
Very nice! I once had a pair of the commercial variety and I was disappointed how short a time they lasted. They used rubber stretch straps instead of chain.
Now to make my own. I think I might even try that flattened link style chain so there’s less roll.

I usually end up with more names in the logbook than the online logs.
This happens to me also. Strange, especially after they took that long hike or trip to find it. 😕
I have found a few of the caches that they located and have several others on my watchlist.
It really is enjoyable to look at their logs and read what they had to say about the journey. I don’t know which one of you is the writer, but your logs bring back great memories in the stories you tell.
Thanks
Fun subject! Lots of agreement with many individuals. Mister Greenthumb, I carry a generic Iburprofen in my cache bag instead of Alleve, works great on the knee pain and sometimes in the middle of a cache day it comes in handy. BigJim60, often when you go to a site and look around, it isn’t at all what you thought it would be. Sometimes it’s worse…
One thing I try to keep in mind is that someone actually placed a container here somewhere. They got in and out alive so maybe if I let it simmer for a while, I’ll figure a way to do the same on a future trip. I have been know to come back to a site with a ladder, reaching tools or what ever I think might help me. Sometimes it has worked. If it’s a neat spot to start with, I’ll definitely revisit.

Forgotten Forest Roads
I’ll second his suggestion having done all but one of them. Don’t forget McCarthy Lake in the middle of the group.
30 miles southeast of this is my “No Name Lake Series” off HWY 182. Three of the 6 are Lonely. Plus they are closer to Hurley…(another shameless promotion of personal caches)
WOW! Congratulations! That’s some serious mileage, typing, walking, searching, etc. I’m exhausted just looking at it! I bet all those people who placed those caches appreciate it also.
I feel the LCG game is a very important part of Wisconsin Geocaching and I truly appreciate all the effort that goes in to the continuation of it. I own several caches up north, three which are on the Lonely list with others that may follow shortly.
Any activity that encourages people to visit any seldom sought caches including my own I applaud!
