I know of some back roads, fire lanes, ATV/Snowmobile trails, with plenty of caches on them. And one pretty gnarly hill with a cache at the top. My guide fees are pretty cheap too!
Speaking of trails?!? When I saw that boast, I thought for sure you had to be talking about some very specific caches. I checked the logs and the cheezehead is obviously still a “mild” cheddar 🙄 Caches so close and yet undiscovered by the cheeze.
Want more than a gravel parking lot?
Wonderful idea!
Last July I was traveling from the Island to Eau Claire and I stopped at Let Freedom Ring! (GC8C0C) just outside of Neillsville, Wisconsin. It had just gotten dark out and I had the place all to myself. It was a very powerful and emotional experience. If you haven’t been to this Virtual, it’s a must do.

I had several DNF’s and then it was disabled. I confirmed it was ok and then after 4 more DNF’s disabled again. The cache is right where it should be, but hunting on a tank is not easy.
That’s an understatement!
It may just be the caches I look at but does it appear that there is a higher incidence of “archive” it when people can’t find it easily?

Leave it to Bartrod to go in circles on a lake. Must be fishing for salmon… 🙄

One method of recalibration of elevation that you might also try is to go to a rural airport. They often have the elevation painted on a hanger (At least ours does, and I’ve seen it at a few others. Ours also has the coordinates listed!). The airport manager may even know it and I’m sure there are other sources for it.
Stand at the source and plug it in if yours is different. I would assume it’s at ground level, so don’t stand on the roof of your vehicle 😯
Lets see…. A bowling alley which usually has great air conditioning in the heat of July… Cold beverages… Vacation time for many people including me… An area not very far from some virtual caches I would like to score….
Sounds good to me!
This is for a different Garmin GPS unit and I can’t say if the Dakota is the same, but check it out.

Log that DNF! But it’s not a guarantee that it will be checked.
If I don’t find it, I log it AND explain the details when I’ve done a lengthy search, I have had multiple DNF’s on the same cache. Sometime it’s me but more often it’s the cache owner and lack of maintenance. A major pet peeve of mine. I wish the cache owners would log when they have checked it. Some are great about this, others, not.
It’s true, and I didn’t have to buy a penny book!
Made you look
Made you lookI don’t want to be the only one checking every hour….
It’s Out!!!!!!!!!
I don’t know why I didn’t suggest this before, but it just occurred.
I travel a triangle from Northeast Wisconsin (home) thru Wausau (Blackcat) to Eau Claire (My sister and Zuma) thru out the summer (Mid June thru Mid August). And the top of the triangle is Price county where the cottage is (Cheezehead and depending on the route Sweetlife).
Not uncommon to make a half dozen trips. If I can be of assistance in delivery (not quite as fast as the Pony Express), keep me in mind. I’m traveling the route anyway.
Thank goodness, you didn’t post the picture of me with my eyes closed…
I’ve actually swapped for a shovel (O.K., garden spade) that was in a cache.

I would be surprised if we haven’t all encountered the same. Approaching a cache or looking for one and you encounter other cachers doing the same.
Have you ever been able to just say hello and continue your task especially after you identify each other as cachers? (Obvious GPS unit in the hands.)
NO, It usually turns into a long conversation about other caches, adventures, you name it. We just love to yak with each other about this activity. Perfect strangers until this activity creates a bond. We often log that we met “so and so” at the site.
How often does that happen with other things we’re doing? Try this next time you’re in the store picking out a brand of cereal. Then you’ll get some strange looks!
