I am no long time veteran of this sport but I look at it in a worst case scenario. Someone sees a non stealthy cacher messing around under a bridge, looking for a cache. They see them placing a container up under a support. The onlooker knows nothing about the activity and calls the police and reports the suspicious activity. The police check it out and find a container. Do they call the bomb squad?
Why let it get to this point. Can’t the cache be placed elsewhere? It may be legal to place it in many cases, but so often we don’t look at the what if. Debate all you want, but I don’t want to lose my ammo can. Geocache logo on the outside “might” help.
I really appreciate all the responses. Thanks!

No negativity, just my usual smartassery.
I learned a new word! 😆

Whoa, what’s with all the negativity here?! Personally, I’d rather just be happy. Thanks Zuma for showing me a feature of the website that I hadn’t used before.
I don’t think the comments are meant to be truly negative, just opinions and goofy remarks. We share those and I’m better for them.
I like the feature Zuma has pointed out, and like the grab and dash. I also like the favorites feature and check out what people have said when they mark a cache with one. I hope it makes me a better cache placer to see what people say about caches they reward. The point Jomusky makes is great and he even has the courtesy to say it in the cache page. I would probably be able to figure out that they are grab and dash without the stated fact, yet I appreciate it.

YMMV.
Excuse my lack of knowledge, but does YMMV mean “you may miss visitors”?
Interesting and Thank You. I was not aware of the feature or ability to see who is checking out your cache for PMO. Does this feature include who is on the watch list?
This is an interesting discussion and I don’t intend to steal the thread here, but with an active discussion going on by premium members about similar caches, I would like to ask a quick question. Do premium members find there is more respect for their caches being found by premium members only? I guess I don’t understand the subtle reasons for a PM only cache.
Some Background: No need to expound on the benefits of premium membership. I understand all the great additional features and how it helps support this activity. I even realize there is a short term membership. I don’t have one yet because of my location of residence (Island) and the difficulty I have to leave for a cache run. Don’t forget that there are also a lot of non premium caches to be found. The additional features are something I’m not yet interested in. When I do decide to get that premium status, it will be to finally recognize with favorite points some of the caches I found have and get some of those PM only caches in areas I frequently visit.
I have no ill reason to single you out personally Zuma, but I notice you have some challenges in the Eau Claire area that are premium and some that aren’t. I just wonder why and if its none of my business I except that. If uws22 were to chime in, I would ask him also about two of his Mellen, Wisconsin caches also.
Again, I don’t intend to offend or point at anyone negatively. These are examples that I have found and I just want to understand the subtle reasons for premium only caches by members.
Thanks!
Tom

Agree! I always have a few grab and dash caches in the GPS unit. These caches bring you someplace you would have no reason to go except for the above mentioned. And sometimes you get an added bonus.
A Tom turkey all puffed up full of color trying to woo a hen.
Someones home with wonderful architectural features that you end up copying in your own cottage.
The list goes on, rural or city. Just open your eyes.
Looking at the bridge section of GC’s guidelines it read:
Cache is problematic due to its proximity to a public structure including and not limited to highway bridges, dams, government buildings, military bases, schools, hospitals, airports and other such locations.
Does problematic also include the overload of guardrail and signpost caches (parking at or near a highway/road and/or next to one searching)? And I also see some confusion in that it specifies “highway” bridge. Does this make rural road, snowmobile, etc. O.K.
A lot can be read in to this rule. I’m going to go back and scour the rules more but I would like some opinions.
cheezehead points out feelings some “Up North” WGA members may have. We belong to the association and would like to be part of many of it’s benefits. Members need to pick and choose what we can attend and participate in.
Making it easier for members who live “out of the way” is only going to strengthen the WGA.
I read this discussion and wonder why the response can’t be “we can do that” or “we can try that again” and “then” talk about snags that can be fixed.
Also noticed.
Thanks TBC!
Fun ideas and great work everyone! It’s in the hands of the committee, but I’ll offer my opinion anyway.
#9: You want to sell pins, offer something unique that says Wisconsin and what do people think of when they hear Wisconsin? Great cheese! A standard round pin people notice. A pin in the shape of a cheese slice, people look at. The shape sells it! Clean up and refine the graphics, and you have a pin that sells.
My opinion to ignore or think about, your choice, but 30+ years as an art teacher says it sells.

I don’t even want to talk about it, if you guys think you wander around in the woods a lot……
Some of us wonder around on purpose… 😛 AND use a compass in addition to our GPS unit.
In order of importance for me:
1. Topo Map
2. Silva Compass
3. GPS Unit@G*Force wrote:

I hunt in the National Forest, not some 100 acre woodlot. Often far from any trail or road. I need to get in and be able to get back out. It works for me. I often mark good sign/locations for next season and I find them next year.I bought it for hunting but it works great for Geocaching too. Would I like to up-grade? Someday I will, but not yet.

actually the funny part is they want me to move it because of the thorns. Guess what there is a way in without going through them but don’t think anybody has found it yet. Not only did I make it in there but dropped a deer there few years back.
One deer hunter to another… I’ll find it.
And for those who complaining… Try looking up from your GPS unit on occasion…
And for fun, put a “LARGE” thorn attribute on the cache page…
