Anyone ready?
It happened…
Maybe it’s our Apple computers Pat?
We just got our internet back today after a four day outage. It was humorous to stop at the library the last few days to see all the locals out in the cold checking their emails and Facebook posts they have missed. It’s surprising how electronically connected people are today. Me, I was looking for a good DVD to watch during this cold weather. 😉
The middle of the week I was coming back from a early morning squad call and the planet alignment in the south was perfect and clear. Great viewing and not many more days left so go out and give it a look.
My favorite tongue twister for today:
“How much ground could a groundhog grind if a groundhog could grind ground?”
No first to post? I’ll take it…
I just hope my guy doesn’t plow me twice to make up for this winter.
Washington Island School wasn’t on the closed list on the 10:00 news for tomorrow but I noticed other Door County schools are going to be closed. Must be some kind of negative lake-effect. I always liked snow closures when I was teaching, it was a chance to get caught up during the day instead of the evening.
Time to start dreaming up a new gadget cache for your Wizard of OC series Bartrod. Mrs. Northwoods and I really enjoyed your Dorthy.
…but someone who can then share relevant stuff here in a timely manner?
You might be on to something here. It’s hard to not comment on items that interest you but often the conversation gets buried and the interesting stuff gets lost. The Thread Stealers link is an interesting example. Often something pops up that’s interesting but then gets buried. If you miss a few days, you can miss the interesting tidbits (Free geocoin, interesting event, cache, the list goes on).
I’m not saying the Thread Stealers thread shouldn’t be as it is but like you, I think, maybe there should be a thread such as “You need to see this.” (For lack of a better name. Some name that hopefully defines it.) Similar to the Fun Things to see thread that you started, almost like a event? thread.
Here’s a current low tech adventure. For the next two weeks, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter will be visible in a line across the sky to the southeast just before dawn.
I had a free subscription to “Alaska” magazine not to long ago and they had an article on the Aurora Borealis. Viewing in Alaska is especially good. Short of taking a loooong trip, know a good location where you have an unobstructed view to the north away from lights (lookout towers and hills work quite well) and keep your ears open for when there’s a good viewing. We have a group of friends that alert each other when there’s a nice display.
The last time I churned butter was in kindergarten… Its been a while.
When I saw this post the first thing that popped into my mind was viewing the Northern Lights. When there’s a prediction for a good showing that evening, I’ll jump into the truck and drive down the street to an open field less than a mile away to enjoy them. Another good spot a few miles away is Schoolhouse Beach on the north end of the island. At the cabin up north I have a view to the north over the lake which also makes for great viewing when “Up North”.
If you’re bored and looking for something to do Noonan now that the Packers are done, one of my trackables finally got moved along after sitting in a cachers possession for almost a year and a half. It’s only about 60 miles northwest of you.
