  • I would have to agree that a minimum $3500 payout is too steep. It is my understanding from reading the posts that would be the cost even if 2000 plates were sold. and if less than 800 are sold “in the first year” then the costs are more than that. I don’t forsee our membership purchasing 800 in the first year. I would much rather have us make window clings or licenseplate frames.

Where do you see last visits here? or do you just mean postings? Some may visit frequently but not frequently post.

I agree that the board should be try to be made up of members from a variety of areas. We would have loved to have made it to the campout in door county last year, but it was our niece’s high school graduation that sunday so we couldn’t make it. We frequently cache when we travel, though our travells have not ventured very far north lately, but we would love to 🙂

I made sure to read what the time requirements were going to be before accepting the initial nomination. While I work full time, I do make the time to check in on the forums here. Having broadband connection at home allows me to easily keep up with the messages.

I’m all in favor of it. It doesn’t have to be just one section, it could easily be regional. I don’t even care if it isn’t done as a CITO event, though I know that could raise participation.

I’ve been part of my workplace adopt a highway clean up before. While they put a cap on the number they want being part of the cleanup, there isn’t a lower limit. I’ve seen the adopters being only a couple people doing the clean up.

in reply to: Questions for Candidates – The WGA in 2007 #1768679

Most of them that I know of have already been mentioned.

I have covered some of them in my bio posting as well.

I’m a large proponent of paperless caching (at low cost) and have hosted afew training events and plan on more.

I think it would be great if we had window clings, stickers, patches, etc. I think we could use a revised logo though. (I know it has been mentioned before)

    Have fun geocaching 🙂

come to afew more events, especially one of the formal WGA events. Timing on those has worked out well yet.

Host a few more paperless training events, and put together a good paperless document to make available on the web site.

in reply to: Question for the Candidates… MAGC #1768658

I think have a more formal handout about the WGA and geocaching would help with some of the education you mentioned, as well as having a “presentation kit” for more in depth education.

I think some sort of partnership between the WGA and MAGC would be worthwile, but that they should still be seperate entities, though individuals would be welcome to belong to both groups and thereby be able to share in the education.

in reply to: Questions for Candidates – Expo Booth #1768550

I’m not against such an idea. I do agree that it would be dependant on costs. If we could have a small booth and not have it cost much, that it would be a good way to help promote geocaching. Maybe we could discuss doing it in partnership with someone like REI, or gander mountain?

in reply to: Questions for Candidates – Park Benches #1768559

I think the bench idea is a good one, if done properly. I do periodically read the plaques on benches in parks, and I read some of the “bricks” from donors for other things. I agree that it shouldn’t be done as a promotion of the WGA, but as a thank you and as a way to support the various park systems. I’m sure many are aware of some section in a park they frequent that would be a good place for bench to rest at.

I’ll second most of those other suggestions 🙂

And I would like to see a more formal WGA put together handout to be able to give to community leaders, law enforcement departments, etc.
Powerpoint presentations don’t really work very well as a handout to give to someone during an initial meeting to discuss geocaching and then let them read it over later or have others check out. Some leaders/decision makers may be glad to agree to allow geocaching based on the simple presentation, while others may want something more.

I also think it would be good to have a nice form set up that we can provide those individuals (and law enforcement agencies) with a general description of the cache and its location, to help avoid the bomb scares.

We should also have a general prominent contact us e-mail address for further information. (if we have one, it isn’t obvious on our home page)

I think something like Zuma’s presentation would be a good option for the futher information.

I think I covered the topic pretty well in my candidate posting.

No, for me/us it isn’t at all about the numbers, we have under 200 finds since starting summer 2005. 3 of our own hides, 1 adopted multi, and hosted afew events.

others are welcome to have it be about the numbers, more power to them 🙂

in reply to: Questions for Candidates – Presentation Kit #1768531

I also think the idea of a presentation kit is good.

I do also agree that there would need to be a disscussion on how to properly distribute such a kit out to those who request it. possibly some sort of deposit requirement to go along with the other logistical questions

in reply to: Geocache containers… #1767888

I’ve also had difficulty with openning some pvc containers. I think that they are pretty easy to get cross threaded as well, which really makes them tough to open. I don’t have a wrench in my cache bag, and haven’t cached that often with our cache bag lately anyway.

I think that other containers are just as good, and I don’t think even cost that much. ammo cans run $5 many places, lock-n-lock containers (I haven’t priced them), and naglene (?) bottles are all good options and I don’t think any cost very much.
