I don’t know if it’s the same if they are tracking the coin without their logo on it, but if you use the logo, you have to sign a contract with them either saying you aren’t going to make any money or what percentage you’re going to them. They also have to approve your design.

Wow, I think that’s one of the few designs I’ve seen that would actually work well with just metal. Take a look at pdxmarathonman’s coin. It would look good coming from the company he used, and perfect, but more expensive from the company that did the Alaska coin.

    My view on tracking:
People aren’t going to be dropping many $5+ coins in caches or moving them from cache to cache unless you put them in a bag with a sticker telling them that’s what you want. Even then you’re rolling the die. So realistically you’re paying gc.com $1.25 a coin to know who’s collection it’s in. I like the icon it adds when you have one, but I’d rather save $1.25 on the cost of the coin and buy more coins.

I used KV for our personal coins. I think they do a great job with helping you with design and their quality is always top notch. The problem is, you have to be patient to get the coins and I’ve heard they are always busy so some people have had a hard time getting responses from them. I had a great experience though.

The one many people are starting to use now are coinsandpins. From what I have seen they do a good job if you have a good design. If your design isn’t so great the coins end-up looking cheap. So they maybe don’t do as much in the design department.

I don’t want to step in on another state’s coin, but I’ll help you with what you need.

From seeing so many coins, I think the important part is to have a nice mixutre of colour and textured metal. The coins that have too much colour tend to look cheesy and those that are only metal are VERY dependant on perfect design and craftmanship.

Having a nice design that can possibly be highlighted with colour and done with a lot of relief and texture works well.

Wisconsin isn’t a small state. What makes you think you’ll only sell 100? Heck I’d buy 10-15 myself. Coins are becoming big collectors things. I bet you would sell 100 to out of state people alone if they looked neat.

If you use the same company as the Oregon, Texas, Canada, and USA coins the price is down around $2.50 if you order like 250 of them. I organized the Oregon coin and could help get someone started if there was interest. I know the other type of coins are flashier, but that’s where you get into $4-5 a piece. But even at that price Washington just sold 1500 coins.

You might also get more response on the gc.com forums.

I looked in here to see if you guys were having any discussion about making a Wisconsin geocoin. I guess not. I can hook you up with an Oregon one. I’m looking for sig items to add to my collection. So maybe if you can round up some items from cachers in your area we can arrange something. Shoot me an email if you’re interested.
