Just an FYI, I went to Wisconsin Rapids this spring and tried to find some caches to do. Several of them in that area had been logged as “no finds” repeatedly with comments about the area being littered with garbage. You might want to check the specific listings carefully before deciding what to go for. I was disappointed that so many of the few caches there were in the area appear to be in disrepair based on the logs. Good luck!

Maybe your mission is to become the great Central WI cache hider?!

I don’t know if you took over for Trudy and the Beast, but we recently logged our 100th find on our 15th anniversary in Jamaica, Doctor’s Cave. A very interesting Cache to say the least.

After thouroughly enjoying this topic, and feeling slightly honored to make the original posting, we wanted to add our ‘name story’.

About 9 years ago, we were headed off to Easter church service in a rush and with about 2 minutes to spare and the almost four year old chimed in with “Here we are again. Off like a herd of turtles!” Obviously, this was a phrase we had used before but it was very comical in that particular setting. Karen carrying Bryce in his carseat, Carly in her cute little dress and Easter bonnet, and Tony in his Sunday best.

We always remembered that and it is kind of a refrain in our life. We are always on time but just barely. (OK, not always.) And so, our geocaching team is “Off Like A Herd Of Turtles” (OLAHOT).

If you are at the Geo-campout, check out our camping sign. You’ll know who we are even if our geoname isn’t on the sign.

Oh, is it politically correct to call people by their geoname? For example, it seems odd to call the Beast ‘Ray’ and I didn’t even realize that Trudy was really ‘Helen.’ Although I have an easier time with calling KBraband ‘Ken.’ Now why is that

OK GrouseTales, that comment about ‘thinking’ about where to put another cache while you were visiting the pit-toilets is a little scary. I mean I love caching but that would be over and above…

    jk

Actually, it would be hysterical to see my almost 12 year old if she thinks there is a cache by the pit toilets!!! It would definately be worth it!! (Am I a cruel mother or what?)

Your dedication to WI Geocaching is outstanding. We will never forget the e-mail we received from you after we logged our first find. It was very unexpected but so nice. The nicer part was meeting you at the Geo-campout in May. Our little girl was quite taken with you. We think it is your welcoming spirit. You set a nice benchmark for all of us to aspire to. We see that in logs where people comment about introducing new people to the sport or teams that cache together. Be proud of all you have done for WI-Geocaching and enjoy your time caching with NO REGRETS. Hope to see you on the trail.
