Mrs. OPS and myself have a wedding Saturday night- but we just may bring a couple of kayaks and paddle along Sunday morning. It’s been over four years since we logged this one but we always love an early morning paddle and to see a gem like this cache get a little attention is pure bonus.
Besides, if we show up, Mathman would have to step up to the plate and show up too. Wouldn’t he?

Well I’m setting my boots next to the front door. 😀
yeah, but darn the bad luck calling in stranded for a couple of days :>
No cell coverage there even when it’s nice outside.
At least Mrs. OPS and I got out on the Eau Claire river trail tonight with the snowshoes. The wind had the snow coming down horizontal. Well, I guess not quite, then it wouldn’t be coming down- but it sure looked that way. Odd we didn’t see anybody else outside…
Yup,
I said it better turn ugly and it sure has. We have around 10 inches on the ground- maybe more. I did the driveway an hour ago and there’s another two or three inches on it again. The wind is picking up and while I can see the house across the street still I can’t see the ones three or four houses down at all.
Still would have been pretty sweet to ride this out in the cabin. But I’m glad I don’t have that drive home tomorrow.
This thing better turn ugly. I had a cabin in the Porcupine Mountains rented for this weekend. The forecast was bad when we left after work but when we got up there it changed from a mild storm on Saturday to 18-20 with 45mph winds creating white out conditions all the way to Monday. We stopped at the Americ Inn right outside the park, had a beer, turned around and drove all the way home.
I really, really wish I was in that cabin next to the big lake right now with the snow coming down. Mile snowshoe in, no electricity, no water, just a small wood stove. But, we all had to be at work Monday morning. And as if that isn’t enough I have jury duty Monday too. Had to turn around…
It’s just not fair. If the forecast turns out to be wrong… well, I don’t even want to think about that. There’s a good 5-6 on the ground here right now though and it’s coming down pretty good. Of course, the belt on the snow blower decided to shred this morning too as I was doing the neighbor’s driveway…
370 miles for a beer. Dang.
How are the mosquitoes up there?
There are plenty to go around. We don’t mind sharing…
Actually, they seem to be the worst they’ve been all summer from what I can tell. But, even at that, it’s not bad. Last Wednesday at Tesomas (one of the greatest Scout camps in all the land) was the first time all summer I’ve used any repellent.

Below the RimArchived- but who cares when it’s one of the greatest caches ever placed in Wisconsin? Take a hike, post a note, enjoy. Lone Rock
They’re all a long ways from you. But, looking through my suggestions you kind of have a habit of doing most every difficult and fun cache around. They’re all the kind of cache that’s fun just to study maps of and dream about going to some day too (at least I do that). That might tide you over for a while right there.
Ever since I purchased my first headlamp I’ve had very little use for a flashlight. It’s just so much more user friendly to have your hands free to set up a tent, read, adjust your climbing tree stand as you’re ascending, carry your bow or gun to your tree, search for a cache, paddle, and the list goes on. We have one of these for everyone in the family. Mine did have an LED go out on a two mile night hike in the Porcupine Mountains in a steady rain but I sent it back to the company and they mailed me back a brand new one.
Oh, and it’ll easily light up a night cache reflector from 50-60 yards on the high setting. They do go on sale on occasion also.
I’ve had fun this morning just going back through our finds trying to find waterfalls we’ve done. And we are no where close to finishing this- maybe half. And I like that, it’s inspiring that there are so many more waterfalls to visit. I own a copy of the book Wisconsin Waterfalls by Patrick Lisi and I was going to comment that the cover photo is not even a Wisconsin Waterfall. I looked up “Steven’s Falls” as it’s credited in the book but the only falls with that name I could find was in Canada. But a little more research this morning and I realize the cover photo is “Stephens’ Falls” in Governor Dodge State Park. So that’s one I’d like to visit some time.
And yes, I did paddle Rainbow Rapids (one of very few remaining rapids/falls on the Wisconsin as the result of so many dams flooding out the historical falls and character of the river). No falls at Rainbow Rapids but a beautiful place and I’m sure Lil’ Otter couldn’t resist placing a cache there for her series. I’m glad she did and I agree it should be on your list too.
There was once a cache at the Eau Claire Dells also (hidden 10/2001). It was not in sight of the falls but it was on the same side of the road. It fell victim to the SNA restrictions. It was off in the woods but it’s too bad caches can’t be placed along the heavily compacted trail around the river as hundreds of folks walk it every week. Old Man in the Dell
I would say this one was perhaps too far from the falls to qualify but thought I’d add it for interest and because we’ll never have one closer.Maybe more of a rapids yet they’re named “falls”. And they’re surely as much of a falls as Rainbow Rapids is a falls.
Fun idea. Now if you let us include UP waterfalls we’d be all set as we spent last summer seeking those out. Oh, and we do have that one but I think we’re way short on Wisconsin falls so it’s not like it’ll put us over the edge on finishing this…
Does this mean you can still guarentee “No bugs”?
If you read the post carefully you’ll see that I guaranteed “No bugs or your money back”. And as I will not be charging anything for the activity…
