Wowee… Haven’t posted here in a long time! The picnic certainly looked fun. We made a trip to Pattison while up at our cabin, the same day we found a great WiscMaritime multi and JFK Twineman, which I gave favorite points to. I also forked an FP over for the WGA cache at Pattison.
Anyways, we are going to Rhinelander for a weekend to find some caches, especially woodcarverdan’s gadget caches. Any recommendations for the Northwoods as a whole (ie- Minocqua, Boulder Junction, Wausau, etc?).
Hmm… That might be the right way to go. We are in New Orleans for the next week, but I will start formulating a puzzle after that.
Nice! The Chatty Belle hide looks great, a least based on the page. I probably won’t do a final, as this seems like a bit of a “casual” series that will likely be added on to as time progresses (therefore making a final a bit tough to create).
I have been eyeing up his caches as well, and I may have to make a run up there soon. Unfortunately, a post by BigJim in an unrelated thread was a bit alarming to me. It reads as follows:
Funny you should bring this up. I got an e-mail this morningĀ from a cacher in Rhinelander with over 200 active caches. He said, āI donāt like the direction GC.com is going and Iām pretty much done caching!ā
Iām not sure what he meant by that statement, but I think that his issue is more with the direction that the game is heading, and not with Groundspeak of GC.com specifically. With many of his caches having lots of favorite points, Iām sure that easy-chair logging is part of the problem. He went on to tell me that he is planning to archive all of his caches ābefore long.ā Thatās a lot of lights going off in the Rhinelander area!
Unfortunately, I think this is WCD. I sure hope all of these great caches don’t suddenly disappear!
Welcome to Dane County. I live in Stoughton, about 20 minutes to the Southeast of Madison. Where in the Madison area will you be located?
Anyways, Madison is a great city. Lots of kind people always willing to help out at a moment’s notice. Two great lakes surround the UW (which is nothing short of an amazing, but good, madness on gameday!). Recreationally speaking, Madison is also superb. Blue Mound, Devil’s Lake, and Indian Lake are just a few of the best hiking and caching destinations around the area.
I hope your transition is smooth and relatively stress-free.

Hey all-
Becca- You could go ahead with the placement of the Neillsville cache. To keep some uniformity throughout the series, would you mind titling it “Big Cow Series- Chatty Belle”? Thanks for your help.
Lacknothing- Same deal. If you would like, go right ahead with the Romy’s Nitingale hide.
CEO&J- I too saw the hide in close range of Bessie, though I am sure 475 feet could be fairly easy to get outside of. Maybe placing it somewhere on the other side of 26 near all of those businesses? In the same breath, I am close enough to Janesville to hide one there (maybe 15 minutes further away than you) if you don’t want to.
Thanks for everybody’s help. If possible, I would maybe like a few more cows to add to the series. Maybe I can send some friendly nudges to a few prolific hiders…
I can take the Deforest cow on my own (and the Janesville one, if need be), along with a final.
Hmm… I am no help here, but I am sure there are some cachers up there who are willing to lend a hand. The Hotel Hell cache looks especially notable; I think that should be the #1 cache to preserve. If you don’t get a WGA’er to help, maybe try e-mailing benny7210 or Doctor Doolittle to help out on that one…
Why did Al Roker decide to go on a fitness program?
His neck of the woods was becoming a triple-chin.
Short but sweet.
KFH! How ironic it is that I find you on here. I was looking at your āThread Stealinā Babiesā puzzle just about 30 seconds ago. I might be up in Madison tomorrow to find itā¦
Did you have any problems solving that puzzle now that the old TS posts are all gone?
I have some ideas in mind (as I was around when the old site was still up), but I have yet to plug them into the coords. There is no checker, but my GZ looks ok.
Working on my accounting project didnāt go as well as planned, so went and found some caches instead. Some of them were even FTFs

Hey there! Geocaching really is a great hobby, and Wisconsin (especially the woodsy part of the state that you live around) is great for it.
I donāt think it has a name but there has been a cow statue on top of Romyās Nitingale (http://www.romysbanquethall.com/) since time out of mind. Looking at the address, there isnāt a geocache within three miles.
That looks like a pretty good cow. Consider it added to the list!
BeccaDay- Would you be on to hide the Neillsville cache? I completely understand if it is out of your “maintenance radius”.
There is already a cache at the one in Waukesha: GC2TR23. But maybe if you talked to the CO you could create a new one?

I Google Earthed it and it looks like the cache is about 300 feet to the south of the cow. I think we would be able to squeeze one in somewhere to the North without making the CO move theirs.
GC8E5D Cemented in History is possibly my favorite. Weāre working on finding all 87 active WI virtuals for the WISCONSIN VIRTUAL CHALLENGE (GC2T5CD), not sure how many more we have to go but I think itās less than 10. Also working on the CHALLENGE OF THE CENTURY (GC1QAAD), in which one needs to have found at least 100 virtuals from any location. We have 3 more to go to qualify.
That is probably my favorite too. Who would’a thunk that would be right off of Highway 13 in the middle of the Northwoods? I do want to get to the virtual at Hyde’s Mill soon too, as it is only ~45 minutes away from our house.
I would have to say my kind of finds are: 1) An ammo can after a good hike in Ā the woods (so, pretty much any Hotdogs-type cache!), 2) A hide with an exceptionally clever or unique container or 3) A hide that brings you to a cool location. I (self-admittedly) may be one of the people that zuma mentions in the snippet, at least to some extent. I don’t mind to find a PNG every so often, mainly to give myself a break between caches and boost my numbers a bit (though I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a “numbers cacher”) or because it is close to a restaurant, hotel, etc. However, where my dislike of PNGs (mainly directed at film cans) comes into play is when they take away from the possibility of a much better hide somewhere within 528 feet. There have been countless chunks of woods and trails taken away in my area by film cans in signposts around the perimeter of an “outdoorsy-type” property, hidden for nothing but numbers. With a good stock of ammo cans sitting here at home, I can’t help but wonder how many other hides I could put out if not for some of those PNGs. Just my two cents.
