To the other Brian,
The Retro Encabulator sounds pretty staight forward to me. Does this mean its time for me to go back to work, or do I need more time off?
I’m glad our company think of that — imagine the paperwork and field support calls.

Way to go Brian. A lot of us started as no-code techs.
Now I am an extra and like to work QRP portable on 17 and 20 meters.Dennis (Painter) de W9DAD
Wow! Thanks every one.
If it wasn’t for the monsoon rains lately I would have had this last month. 200 seems so far off, but I know I can get there.
PainterPersonally, I like them both. A good 1 or two mile hike/walk gets me outdoors and feeling good.
My wife got interested in geocaching only because of some of the walks I described.Painter
Try before you buy!
I have used many different forms of amplified receiving antennas over the years. None have been with a GPSr but some have been close to GPS frequencies. In some cases, if the antennna connected to the amplifier does not have enough gain, all the amp will do is increase the noise level.
Conditions also change constantly. Some days the results could be very dramatic, some days barely noticable, and on other days the amplified antenna will do no good at all.
If your GPSr has a connection for an external antenna, Google for GPS antenna construction and you will find many articles on making simple antennas that have more gain than you would expect from a good amp.
