Steve0618’s mom wanted me to post this …..
Your kindness and sympathy are more deeply appreciated than any words of thanks can ever express.
What a tribute and send off ! Steve would have loved it!
Thank You to all of the geocaching friends who came by or sent their condolences to bid Steve farewell. We think Steve found “swag” (i.e. treasure) in his friends. Special thanks to all who gave the Daily Dose floral arrangement, it was beautiful and thoughtful. He was, is , and will always be loved.
Steve’s Mom & Family
I have permission from Steve’s mother to place a good-bye cache in his casket providing the funeral home doesn’t object. If they don’t allow it, she’ll proudly keep it in her home as a tribute to the passion Steve had for geocaching. Sorry, the only credit you’ll get for this find will be a great feeling in your hearts for showing a fellow geocacher how much we care.
I will be at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave. Kenosha from 5 – 7 pm Sunday evening, please stop by to sign the log and if you like, add a small item of swag to show Steve we’ll miss him.
If you can’t make it but want your name included, email me at [email protected] with Steve0618 in the subject line before 4pm Sunday so I can get it in before I go to the funeral home.
Please try to make it, Steve’s mom would really like to meet us all. She plans to start geocaching soon and I assured her that Steve was right, geocachers’ are a fine group of folks who will help her in any way we can.

Steven P. Myers ( Steve0618 )
1960 – 2008
Outdoor enthusiast, Steven P. Myers, 47, of Paris Township, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his residence. Born to Robert W. and Doris E. (Norby) Myers on June 18, 1960, in Kenosha, Steve attended Paris Consolidated Grade School and was a 1978 graduate of Salem Central High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in bio-chemistry from U.W.-Parkside. Professionally, his career began at Great Lakes Naval Station in the laboratory. He then accepted a position with Abbott Laboratories where he worked for many years. In 1994, Steve relocated to Alaska where he worked for S.G.S. Environmental Services, providing his environmental testing expertise; and then in February of 2007, until the time of his death, Steve returned to his hometown and was employed as a chemist with W.R. Grace in Deerfield, Ill. To say that Steve loved the outdoors would be an understatement. His work, his life and his passions were filled with the beauty and wonder of the world around him. Hiking allowed him to experience nature first-hand; and photography meant that he could capture the images that he never wanted to forget. Steve also enjoyed geocaching and all of the thrills and adventures that came with it. Befitting the rest of his life and interests, Steve was a computer buff and pursued any new technology. Family and friends would frequently seek his help with new and old hardware and software snags. Left to cherish his memory is his mother and step-father, Doris and Norbert Dogs of Paris Township; his sister, Linda S. (Charles) Stachowski of Somers; his two nephews, Aaron and Anthony Stachowski; his cousin, who was like a brother to him, Wayne (Joleen) Rongholt of Pleasant Prairie; his foster-brother, Joseph (Rosemary) Vargas of Santa Fe, N.M.; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and his special friend Sally. Steve was preceded in death by his father in 1987. Funeral services for Steven will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 9 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for Steve will be hosted on Sunday, May 4, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
