I approve of this decision as I think the sport has become more about numbers than going out to see new and unique places.

How many cachers have logged temps from Northwest Wisconsin, I have no idea but it can’t be many cuz there has never been an WGA event north of Hwy 8. I know there was a WGA event near Eau Claire, but that’s still a 3-4 hour drive from the Superior/Bayfield/Hurley areas.

We have been to the campout at Chippewa Falls and Door County and did not log a temp cache at either one but that is because we decided we would not log temps.

I do enjoy going to the campouts but when they end up west of Madison they end up being a bit too far to drive to.

Us members up north are in the minority because the majority of the members are from the southeast part of the state and that is why the WGA sponsored events are where they are at.

in reply to: What kind of GPSr do you use? #1887937

We have been using Garmin Etrex Legends since the begining. I don’t see any reason to upgrade.

in reply to: Suggest a place for a WGA event #1763147

We also live in the Northwest part of the state. We attended the campouts at Lake Wissota in 2005 and Peninsula State Park in 2006. We also stopped at the campout at Hartman Creek in 2004 since we were on that side of the state that day at another function.

As Grousetails stated, A person does not realize the size of one of these campouts until you have attended one. The amount of work setting an event up of that magnitude is huge. Finding a place with a large enough area for all the temp caches is not usually the problem but a place with the required amenities is. Also the place has to be close enough to a decent amount of hotels for people who do not camp.

There have been events the last couple of years in Eau Claire although we did not attend either of them. You can hold an event without it being a WGA sanctioned event. People do it all the time.

You can’t let the fact that most of the events are going to be 4+ hours away from home get you down. I find it a good reason to get away for the weekend. I used to complain that there is not enough events up in this part of the state but the fact is that most of the population live down south. As far as I am concerned they can stay there because I like living in a rural area. 😀

Back on topic I would like to see the next campout be held at either Governor Dodge State Park or Devil’s Lake State Park.

I see no reason to have “Premium Memberships.” If the bank account is getting low and there is an expense it would be proper to have some sort of fundraiser. We don’t need to have a ton of money just sitting around.

The site has served the organization well the past 4 years Wendie and I have been members.

Everyone will be very happy with the new site when it goes live tomorrow.

There was one cache in Rice Lake back in the day but it did not last long.

    in reply to: Slingbox #1761195

If a person has Tivo they can already transfer shows to their pc using the TivoToGo software. You have to be on the same network as the Tivo box for this to work though.

If a person needs their TV shows that bad they could set up a linux box firewall such as IP Cop and use a VPN tunnel to get on your home network from somewhere else on a different computer. That would be free and not too hard to set up.

Kind of a pointless product in my opinion.

Putting this in the .htaccess file will take care of a bunch of those email harvesting robots. I use it on all my domains.

I believe Missouri has .05% added into their sales tax that funds their DNR. I would not be against that small of a tax hike. That’s nothing compared to the 88% increase in the township I live in.

I would be willing to help out with Lake Wissota also. Like BNB said I would not want to be the lone ranger working on this.

I would be able to find a spot for the WGA repeater and find places for temp hides. I will talk to the person I know that works there to see who would have to be contacted.
