Here is the official WGA Policy as adopted by the board:
- The WGA encourages each geocacher present for the official event photo (traditionally at 5pm) to log a “find” for the Event itself by logging “has attended” on the event webpage……
Just asking for clearification.
During the WGA Geo-Campout 2006 at Peninsula State Park My family and I arrived Friday around 1130am and camped that night. That was a cold wet night. Anyhow, we ended up leaving by 2pm Saturday. Does this mean I should not have logged an “Attended”?

My one complaint is how burried switching maps option really is. from the map screen you have to press menu, select setup map, highlight the map setup-information(5th option from the left), press menu again and then show and hide the maps you choose.
I have got used to switching maps but it would be great with a few less button presses. Seems to me they could make it much easier, from the map screen hit menu, and add a swtich maps option right there.
That sounds pretty bad. With Teletype software on my Pocket PC, the map for the entire county gets loaded automatically as soon as I cross the county line.
Although I haven’t tried Garmin mapping software yet, and I’m still using the C series, not Cx, sometimes I wonder if Garmin “gets it” especially when it comes to geocaching.
when I say switching maps, I mean switching between topo and city navigator maps. with both types loaded and both set to show, the city navigator is only shown, you need to hide it to see your loaded topo maps.
I have a Lowrance PHd and the map is all in one with no switching at all. You set your preferences when creating the map on the computer. No limit other than your SD card / memory has to be large enough. I always set my maps to contain max information. ThatΓ’β¬β’s all POI/restraints/hotels/government blds/parks/trails/streets/topo/ and many more. Then with the GPS unit I select which features I want displayed. While driving to a cache I do not have Topo feature on but when deciding best way to approach a cache turn feature on.
I made maps that went from WI all the way to FL with all the features. This been quite nice having that ability when going on a trip. From what sounds like of the others you would be hard press to fit that much.
Lowrance not a popular brand but seems to have SOME things correct from the start.

Just a word of caution for any Lowrance users out there. There has been issues with using anything other Sandisk SD cards with some Lowrance units. I now for sure that there has been issues with the iFinder series. I have never tried anything other then a Sandisk so I can’t give firsthand info. The people that have tried other cards seem to be Knowledgeable and I have no reason to believe they are incorrect in their experiences. There has been some discussions with Lowrance and they seem to backup this info. No direct reason why, there just seems to be some sort of compatibility issue. This doesn’t make sense to me however it seems to be a real issue.
I have a Lowrance PHd and utilize a 1gb card that is made by some off brand company. I had that card in the unit for over a year with zero problems.
What I do know is you HAVE to use their proprietary card reader to make the maps.
I like to thank Flushingrouse for serving on the BOD.
I would like to clarify that the position would be only filled assuming that #6 agrees to only one year. Is this true or not? Does #6 have no choice? If number six declines then does it go to the next person? (if there is one)

wow
Almost every day I check the forums twice. Weekends it becomes a hit or miss. I scan all subjects and read over some completely while others get a review. Depends on the subject and if the topic is really going in a productive direction.
01/18/2007 at 4:33 pm in reply to: marc_54140 you in the nation’s spotlight (GC forums anyway!) #1768612is a famous Latin phrase coined by Roman general and consul Julius Caesar in 47 BC; Caesar used the phrase as the full text of his message to the Roman senate describing his recent victory over Pharnaces II of Pontus in the Battle of Zela. Caesar’s terse remark — translated as “I came, I saw, I conquered” — simultaneously proclaimed the totality of his victory and served to remind the senate of Caesar’s military prowess (Caesar was still in the midst of a civil war); alternatively, the remark can be viewed as an expression of Caesar’s contempt for the patrician senate, traditionally representing the most powerful group in the Roman Republic.

Did you get much snow down there? Some of the caches may be hard to find. We only got an inch up here.
About 2-3 inches
There quite a few in the Black River area that make for really nice hikes.

If you want really big screen, you could get yourself a cheap laptop and run Streets and Trips and attach that to a car mount, then use a bluetooth GPS.
OR…use your laptop with a Garmin GPS 18 USB–a USB gps receiver that’s about the size of a small pancake. It comes with nRoute/City Select CD, and waypoints are EASILY downloaded via GSAK. GoTo routes, Elevation, Distance, ETA, etc….
We used this while touring Nevada/Arizona/California and it was a true blessing!!Or…
You can hook up a 30 inch LCD monitor to you laptop and mount that… π
