I don’t know if this is a credit class or not, but my recollection of college classes is that they have no qualms about requiring supplies for classes, regardless of costs. I would think you could make the purchase of a GPS a prerequisite for the class without causing significant issues.
Nice…
A $100 lab fee. 😆
I don’t really remember the year but must been around when it 1st started off. I heard about it over the internet (I know general). I looked at the prices of a GPS unit and was shocked by the sticker price. I then checked out the website to find out what caches were in my area. At the time I was In Virginia Beach and there were ZERO caches. Based on that I was not going to dish out lots of $$ to go no place close.
A few years later I decided to check into it again and GPS units cost less and caches were now all over the place.
Bec,
You can always check out the WGA educational pack.
Oh wait don’t have one of those…. 😀
Anyhow, I have a Yellow Etrex you can borrow.
Carry over to next page

Ok let’s make this simple, here are two photos I have taken in the past and posted with my log.
Photo A

Photo B
These both show the “Area” and both have the cache in them. But both do not show where it was actually hidden.
Are these acceptable – YES / NO and why?

Glad someone actually officially got this one going.
Hope to be able to complete in the next two – three years. 🙂
In short I will say in the long run I think better for all but only time will tell. The unfortunate part of this is the burden is now on the approvers. As some pointed out there are a lot of geocachers that are new or just don’t read or know about WGA. They are not aware of the policy. The approvers have to be extra stringent in my eyes to make sure these new caches do have the permission. Some will look at the approvers as…… well use your imagination.
“Cache_boppin_BunnyFuFuI don’t see a problem with the Owner logging in and out of the caches they do either. The ones that are… well….disappointing I guess I could say(?)…are the TB’s that one person grabs from a cache and takes to “umpteen” different caches, then finally after an exhausting amount of time, drops it off for good in a cache.
I have to say I’ve done this once for sure might been twice but not sure. This was due to the fact I could not find a cache that the TB would fit into. So, I figured if I’m going to drag this TB from one cache to another to find it a home I’m going to mark that is what I did. It was part of the TB history that I could not find a container that was big enough.
But I would agree that while a TB might be in my bag I only log it in the cache that I intend it to go in. The other time was a special circumstance.
I had a TB that I used to track my miles I went for caching but stopped just do to the extra work it took to always drop and pick it back up per cache. Anyhow, I dropped this TB into every cache that I hit regardless of type, regular, micro, virtual, ect… I did not however drop mine or any TB into a cache that I did not visit.
Each person has their way and own set of rules that they follow themselves. I have seen post on GC.com that people who travel with a TB post a note on a cache near airports to log that the TB was in the area.
My short answer is decided what you want to do and go with it.
good old fashion still works

We use them mainly just at geo-events.
(such as a short rope to use as a portable hand rail for the kids).
You don’t bring your own handrails? 😆
😆 I up it to $75 😛
I bought a slew of geocoins at one time and been slowly putting them in my caches over the summer. When I first started I even put caches all over the area mine and others caches.
Point being my intent is the geocoins are for those who have not visited the caches before. Only once so far did I have someone who did my caches come back around and take all the geocoins.
Now I do feel that if the cache is a TB hotel that what it is there for people to pick up TB and move them along. I like a cache that is located right over the boarder of WI in MN and use that to dump TBs if I have a period of not caching.
😕
Thought I made it clear in my post but guess not.
“With the newer versions of GSAK that export waypoints in .usr format for Lowrance this has become very easy to deal with. All you need for loading of WAYPOINTS is a card reader that can read your SD/MMC card. This is usually connected to a computer via USB cable”
